I had a very fascinating false awakening/lucid dream this morning. Or at least I think it was. It's funny because it's possible I was actually awake, but I have no idea. So I'm posting this in General Discussion instead of Lucid Experiences.

First some background: Earlier that morning around 06:00 (it was still dark outside) I had woke up in a FA after a dream, and I was about to reach for my TI-89 (a graphing calculator with a text editing program installed--I use it to take notes about dreams so I can record them later) to type up some notes about the dream I just had. But I had a really weird feeling that I was really still dreaming and would wake up soon, and that trying to type up a dream now was a waste of effort. Sure enough, I woke up for real after I had thought that.

Later this morning, after several other dreams, (it was now light enough outside that my room was well-lit) I woke up lying in bed with my eyes open. Nothing looked out of place, but I had the same odd feeling that this was a FA as before. I sort of thought, "Cool! Another lucid dream!", but I found I was in a sleep paralysis state and couldn't move. My body simply didn't respond to any attempts to move. I told myself I could move, but that didn't work. I don't remember if this happened for sure, but I think I tried speaking out loud, and it felt like my voice box was vibrating, but it didn't seem like any sound was coming out.

Next, I tried just getting up and out of bed anyway--maybe I could move again and explore the lucid dream. It was weird because I sort of felt like I was actually sitting up in bed and standing up, but I noticed that I was really still lying in bed seeing the same thing and hadn't moved an inch. I think I tried doing a reality check by holding my breath (since I couldn't move to do any other type of RC), but I don't remember the result.

Finally, I blinked, and (this is why I wasn't sure if I was actually dreaming or not) even though my vision or body position didn't change the slightest bit, I suddenly felt like I was no longer dreaming. After a few seconds, I found I could finally move again, and I was able to do a reality check with my watch. I was awake.

If I was really awake the whole time, that would explain why my dream control attempts didn't work. But that wouldn't explain why I felt very sure I was dreaming, or why I felt like I could move my body even though I couldn't. If it was a dream, it's weird that it was able to perfectly reproduce what I would see in the exact same body position I was actually in while my physical eyes were closed.

Anything like this happen to anyone before? Things sure have been getting interesting for me ever since I came here.
