What would be the use of sleeping with your eyes open?

      Doesn't seem relaxt or anything.

      Sleep

Because.. If your eyes are open they are continually shouting images at your brain, at a fairly high speed. Your brain is then interpreting images and studying them (subconciously). You then have to exert muscle power to blink the eyes which doesnt allow your body to relax enough.

In short, keeping your eyes open is an extreme amount of activity, not really possible to sleep in that kind of case.

      IMO..

Lucid dreaming is such a tauntingly simple thing to attain...

About muscle activity and Sleep... do you know there is one Tribe in Southern India which over the Centuries has developed the ability to, only among the women, to fan themselves with those lovely little silk hand fans while they are dead asleep. While sleeping, their hands keep going. If you ask why the men can't do it, well, the answer may be that they won't do it. You see, fanning one'self has always been considered a womanly effeminate thing to do, and so the majority of men, who want to be thought of as men, would never make a gesture suggestive of fanning themselves. Indeed, when Missionaries first started out in India they had to be taught quite explicitly never to make the mistake, no matter how hot and muggy it would be, of perhaps fanning themselves with a tract or religious pamphlet, as it would simply make them look blazingly Gay to the native populations.

      It'd be interesting to research.

I think it has something to do with not getting enough oxygen. If i try to go asleep on my back i`m having a hard time to fall asleep and eventually yawn like every 30/60 seconds. When i`m yawning i noticed that my eyes produced a lot of tears almost like i`m crying but i still don`t know what the link between them excactly is. It sounds almost impossible that you are able to have your eyes closed during the night just because of the dried tears you produce each night. I rather believe that it has something to do with the preasure in combination with sleep paralysis on the eyelids? I may sound a little silly and could have used the wrong words but slap and please correct me if i`m totally wrong.

I used to have pretties piled up high in the sky! Don't remember where they are though, pretties...

Have you ever pulled someones eyes open while they sleep? I pulled a friends eyes open when he fell asleep in class expecting him to wake up, but he didn't so I hit him with a ruler lol. I asked him if he saw anything and he said no, but maybe he was just angry because I hit him? Or maybe it's because he wasn't in REM sleep?

Has anyone here had their eyes pulled open while they slept? Next time I get the chance I want someone to pull my eyes open while I sleep to see what happens.

      Hi-

I stumbled across this forum in search of a solution to my sleeping-with-eyes-open problem...

For the past year or so, I've been opening my eyes in my sleep. When I open them, I can see my bedroom, and everything is just like it was when I went to bed, but there'll be something else in my room. The first time it happened, my room was filled with wooden toys (my mom calls me a 'creative dreamer' ). I looked around my room at all the toys, and then I asked myself, "What the heck am I going to do with all these toys!?" And I blinked and woke up, and they were all gone.

Since then, this has happened a couple of times a week. Sometimes my room is filled with balloons, sometimes flowers... I've even seen people, which is really freaky. I have a smoke detector on my ceiling which has a light on it, and I looked at it once and saw the moon. And what's truly bizarre is that I *really* see these things in my room, and when I realize that these things in my room in the middle of the night don't make sense, I make up reasons whey they're there, like my parents put them there or something.

Most of the time it's pretty cool, but sometimes it's a little intense. Like, I'll open my eyes and there's a stranger standing over my bed. I've actually had to jump out of bed and run down the hall to get away from some one or some thing I saw. And I don't feel really feel rested on the nights that I have these dreams.

Basically, I wouldn't highly reccommend sleeping with one's eyes open... the more nights you have without seeing a murderer in your room, the better.

      ~Rachel
