quick tips from experiences of myself and others

Here's something a teacher of mine recommend I do; it worked for me. He said that, after realizing you are dreaming, you can look at your hands to ground yourself in reality. Examine them and move them.
He also said not to look at yourself in the mirror, becuase you will likely see a distorted image. I, of course, did look in the mirror that very night. I actually found it a confidence booster because I was able to take that highly distorted image and twist it back into what I usually see in the mirror.
More... I've found that it helps to recognize you are dreaming if you, before dreaming, anchor youself very firmly in reality, recall everything that happened during your day (because most dreams are based on some random detail of your previous day), and realize that nothing extraordinary happened. Also, if something very important or significant happened (anything from winning the lottery to a friend dying ) note that, you will probably dream about it that night or in the near future.

      Have fun!!!

Hey there & welcome to the forum!!
That was nice advise from your teacher. Teaching you how to be Lucid through RCs and all. You are lucky to have a teacher like that, b/c some forbid you from talking about LDing altogether!!
And I hope you enjoy your stay here!!
