      Dying in your dreams

One of my most frequently experienced dream signs is seeing a black widow spider and then being bitten by it and then dying shortly thereafter. I always wake up after I die in the dream. Am I waking myself up or is it just the end of the dream and some how my mind could tell that I was about to wake up and ended it? Regardless, this is helping me obtain lucidity because I can see a dark box or something and think there may be spiders in there and there always will be and I sense for a moment that I'm dreaming, so it's helping, but it's also causing my dreams to end. Any input, anyone?

Dying doesn't necessarily mean your dream needs to end. Keep that in mind and you should be alright. Also, remember that once you're lucid, you don't have to allow the spider to bite you. You're in control at that point.

Yes, I do think you should try to stay with these dreams longer -- long enough to become aware that you have not really died, or rather, long enough to come back to life. Ordinarily it only takes about 20 seconds of being dead in a dream before one stirs and comes back to life. so, just keep trying. Perhaps it will help to know that it certainly is not inevitable that you should wake up from a dream simply because one has been killed. Stay with the dream, or intend to stay with these dreams, and sooner or later you will achieve this necessary breakthrough.

And it is an important breakthrough. When one has come back to life after having been killed in a dream, it is the foundation for a great degree of subsequent bravery. One becomes quite a Hero in one's dreams after one becomes so well assured of one's veritable Dream Immortality. Deathlessness makes one's Dream Self quite the Cavalier.
