i'm pretty sure the first rem period is approximately 90 minutes after sleep onset... which means you could sleep for just under two hours and remember a dream or two. |

I know they say it takes 5-6 (or something) hours to get to REM stage and dream, but I often recall dreams when I've only been asleep for ~3 hours. So I don't know. |

I occasionally remember dreams from my first four hours of sleep (I almost always wake up approximately four hours after I fall asleep every night), but not every time. At some point, I had trouble sleeping in the late morning for several days even though I needed to, and I was surprised to remember more dreams or more clarity in my dreams from my first few hours of sleep for a couple of nights. It's probably REM rebound. |

What is a rem rebound and is it good or bad? |

Well, I don't know if this was due to REM-rebound or not, but a few days ago, I actually went to bed at the start of the night, woke up only one hour later, and remembered a dream! That's probably the first time I've ever remembered a dream from my first REM cycle in the night. |

Sleep cycles vary a great deal between individuals and over different days. |
