Thread: Play That Funky Music...

Actually, a lot of people have trouble with music because it stops them from reaching a particularly deep sleep. It's never bothered me, though, and I sleep with iTunes running on the compy next to my bed all night long.
It makes a handy dream sign, though. The music or noise tends to filter through into your dreams, so I have a lot of dreams that I'm at a concert or listening to the radio, and whenever I AM at a concert or listening to the radio, I do a reality check to see if I'm dreaming. It's got me lucid at least 10 times before...
But as for directly affecting the LD's, it might, but there's probably a lot more affecting the vividity of the dreams than just music, so music probably would play little or no role compared to those things.

I've tried that recently. I listened to one of the theme songs from an anime and had a very vivid dream. It didn't have a lucid dream but I did have a really cool dream. I dreamt I was fighting off an entire army, it was one of the coolest dreams I have had in a long time.

Has anyone ever tried it? Does classical work better than rock?

See, I've never tried it, but I'm thinking that maybe the music would stimulate the brain, perhaps causing increased dreaming. Lucid or not.

actually...I think music will have the opposite effect, for that very reason, that it stimulates your senses. Music will make it harder to go to sleep, and will maybe make your deep REM phase of sleep more "bumpy", so to speak, so dreaming might be harder....

but, the music will most likely induce a certain kind of dream if you associate the sound with something else, so music can most likely alter what kinds of dreams you have. I doubt it has little if any effect on lucidity. Lucidity, from what I've learned, is just about the awareness of your dreaming, music stimulation shouldn't affect that.
