How long do dream cycles get?

So I know that dream cycles start short and then get longer as you sleep, but how long can they actually get? Like, i've been known to sleep 18 hours easy by just waking up and saying "I don't think so", and then going back to sleep. But by then could you have like a 4 hour dream cycle. I also might be confused about dream cycles. Feel free to help me out.

Well, the longer you sleep, the longer the REM periods last. If your sleeping about 14 hours ( which is extreamly unhealthy, get up and live ) your dream period could last 130 mins just about.

I remember sleeping like 10-14 hours per day in my summer vacation, I had nothing to do so I slept. Had some really amazing (and LONG) dreams... LD was unknown to me, though... So it kinda went to waste because I didn't record my dreams...

I was wondering if I stood up like 24-48 hours then how long could I sleep, how long would the dream cycles get? It would be great for experimenting with various techniques... In the last 1-4 hours of sleeping you would mostly have REM sleep, wouldn't that be cool? Sure LD, I'd say.

Actually it isn't unhealthy to sleep 14 hours, your body burns fat during sleep And to sleep that much you need to be up like 24 hours so there's enough living to it, too

I slept 17 hours about two months ago, but I hadn't slept much the previous night. It was amazing. I was dreaming (non-lucid) for a long time, and it was fun aswell. When I woke up I had to go to school, and I was a bit disappointed, because I felt that I could sleep for another 2-3 hours.

I wouldn't want to do that every night, but every now and then I think most of us need a day like that.

Sometimes I'm groggy if I get TOO much sleep - then I'm useless for the rest of the day. On average, I require 8 to 9 hours of sleep per night.
