      Dream Types

What are some of the types of dreams you guys have i will list mine you can describe them however you want.

Story dreams (where a flowing sort of story takes place)
Epic dreams (where your just in awe and when you wake up it makes you think)
Random dreams (just full of random stuff colours, people, anything no sequence really)
Searching dreams (where your looking for something or something goods going to happen but it never does or you wake up)
Unreal dreams (where you fly around or jump up real high and do a bunch of unreal stuff)
      Lucid dreams
      Nightmares

Theres probably more but it would be cool to get a big list of different types of dreams just to see how other people think and how they dream. im always interested in how the mind works and how people tick so this would really interest me.

An extremely common dream type for me:

      Chasing dreams

About 80% of the time it's me being chased by a person/group of people, and about 20% of the time it's me chasing somebody. Usually it's not straight chasing though- I will often stay and try to fight off my pursuers if I see an opportunity, and I also often try to hide from them. Anyway, I wouldn't describe these dreams as "scary" at all... tense, maybe... but overall, pretty exciting.

I have noticed different types of dreams too, although not all of them fit into categories. A lot are really, really random stuff that isn't neccesarily weird...

      Anyway.

Lucid dreams; you all know what that means.

Faux lucid dreams; I'm dreaming of lucid dreaming! Or I think I'm awake. Or I'm doing normal everyday stuff without questioning reality at all.

Epic dreams; Really long, vivid, narrative dreams. They have great visuals and the stories are always coherent (even if the events are nonsense). I get one or two of these a year...

Anxiety dreams; I know my anxiety dreams. I get lots of random, vague images. It's fast moving, there's no story, and I never wake up refreshed.

Museum dreams; Another one I get very rarely, but they are distinct. I am in a museum or an art gallery or somewhere like that (I think an aquarium on one occaision). There are sometimes a few other people around, like classmates as if it was a school trip. But in the most distinct ones the place is totally empty. I'm usually looking for something, in most cases the exit. There's no story, I just remember walking around.

Displaced dreams; I used to have a lot of dreams about going to the end of my street (it's a long street) and everything being WRONG there. It made me question my actual knowledge of the local geography! The most recent one I had like this involved me going to someone's house, and finding it looked a lot like mine. They feel very real, and are a bit disturbing in their own way because I don't feel like I belong in familiar surroundings. It's like the world changed.

Nightmares; They are generally short, vivid, and needless to say, quite scary. I get them rarely, thankfully.

Brain farts; Random stuff, not very well remembered. Happens most nights.

Normal dreams; Anything not mentioned above! Which covers a LOT. The above ones are only the dreams which are formulaic, and very few dreams are formulaic.

I've had a few story dreams, that seemed to have a movie-quality ending (minus the scrolling credits)

I do had a lot of random dreams - or maybe I'm only recalling random parts of dreams...

      Of course, lucid dreams.

And many unreal dreams - mainly flying.

I like this topic. I believe there are many different kinds of dreams.

Here's an attempt to categorize based on different experiences

dream lectures - no imagery one voice tells me something
dream conversations - little or no imagery two or more DCs discuss something
wandering dreams - my DC is not quite lost spends time wandering
psychological dreams - symbolism and action relate to my emotional life
movie dreams - watch DCs in third person do fairly interesting things
near lucid dreams - high degree of realism and vividness, but miss lucidity
low level lucid - recognize its dream, but little control, ignore dream tasks
high level lucid - do dream control and do dream tasks
awesome dreams - intense dreams with fantasy landscapes and characters
dream of clarity - dream where I learn something my ego didn't know before
dream of void - no imagery, no body, emptiness

Nonsense/Random dreams: Weird absurd stuff like fishing in a flooded closet for edible bracelets.

Book dreams: Kinda strange, I'm reading some story in a book, and at times I'm in it, at others I'm reading passages from it.

Gaming dreams: I'm in or playing some game.

Death dreams/nightmares: Usually me in some vehicle plumetting off something, or me getting stabbed or dying in another way.

Various horror movie nightmares Zombies, "Saw", etc.

Long epic or rather meaningful dreams

Dreaming of lucidity, talking about it / thinking about it in the dream but not going lucid

I have those dreams all the time. It's always the last dream I have before waking.
When you have these "book dreams" are you in control of the way story goes??

You asked about types right? not about the actually "what happens".

      1. I have lucid dreams, which can be divided in several groups...epic dreams. whole scenario, nice coherent story..usually fantasy word.
then I have alternative reality dreams.

both these types are all vivid, realistic, with "audio" and sensations. (yeah, you should note this. if I get tired in the dream I wake up tired, if I swim in the dream I wake up and my body aches all over, if I'm at LAN party or something my eyes are all red...)
      also I'm the main character.

      2. then I have lucid dreams which don't affect my body. Those are dreams I control. I can be "director" and main character in the same time. But those dreams are more distant. They are usually as real as the above but sometimes I don't have audio, or they are in greyscale.

      3. then I have pretty random dreams. these come when I'm ill or when I haven't slept for a long time. (I hate those)

      4. "memories dreams" - I don't want to speak about that just yet. difficult for me to accept.

      5. "gaming dreams" - I'm quite a gamer (or was). I like RPGs, adventures etc. It happens to me to get stuck. To solve the problem I create the world of the game and I continue in the game. I leave this dream continue on its own...just I keep the world... and I watch what happens. This helped me many times to solve some problems in the game. But also sometimes it made me pretty scared.

ex. I was stuck in Baldur's Gate. I didn't know how to proceed. my group of adventures ventured to an un unknown place where they met Irenicus (bad guy). I was so scared of my 3d realistic version of him that I had to stop dreaming and wake up.

that's it I think. if I don't count nightmares...but they don't come anymore. that happened when I was a little child ..between 4-6. I was in a sea hunted by a shark, or some large monster wanted to kill me..and stuff like this... (I have to say that some lucid dream experiences are more scary than this...hm I would say an example..but hm do you want it? maybe I will put it into Flying experiences. because that scared me A LOT)

One type of dream I have quite often is a kind of POratl Dream, where I'm in someone else's house and I want to get out. I open a closet or attic or cupboard and go into the tunnel inside, and end up in some other house, and I keep going. I usually go through about ten locations and sometimes I spend the whole time hiding from whoever lives there.
