Can a movie influence your dreams?

Last nite, about 4 or 5 hours before i went to sleep, i had went and saw the movie "Stay Alive" with my girlfriend. This movie is currently in theatres, hopefully someone knows what im talking about. But anyways the point is, at least one of my dreams were almost solely based around this movie. At one point in my dream even the words "Stay Alive" were mentioned. Is it possible that this could happen?

This is a part of the dream i had:

Then about another 20 feet down the path a voice suddenly starts to yell in a deep devil like voice, "those who continue down the grid will be punsihed and i will surely eat them". At this point i think i became lucid because i said outloud that this is like a dream and we should change paths. Eliots doesnt argue and we bolt through the woods over ungroomed terrain. Suddenly i trip and fall landing on my stomach. When i stand back up there is deep snow everywhere. Eliot is still behind me and a girl is now infront of me. Not even mildly surprised by the climate change or the girl infront of me, the three of us now continue on. The snow is up to my chest now, but i dont feel the cold. The girl infront of me turns and says there is a ghost over there, we must go this way. She then pauses and looks me in the eyes and says "STAY ALIVE". She turns and leads us away from the ghost which to me looked like a floating shape. We hide behind a cabin. Now up to my shoulders in the snow i begin to feel hopeless. The girl looks at me and eliot again and says shes going to walk ahead and find a path we can take. She begins walking. Not more then 20 feet ahead of me and eliot i notice a gruesome figure (of what looks to be some sort of person that had been ran over by a car) opens his eyes and starts walking towards her. I now become intimidated and force myself to wake up in real life as i know its a dream.[/b]

      To put it simply: Yes.

Remember, anything that you've experienced, physically or mentally, is fair-game to show up in your dreams.

Conversations, pictures, movies, the feel of carpet between your toes, that foul smelling dumpster you used to smell when you were playing football in the neighborhood as a kid, the wasp that landed on your windowsill for a moment then flew away....anything.

There is nothing that exists that can't, somehow, influence your dreams.

And congrats on the lucid, even though it was wasted on a nightmare. (I hate that.) Next time, when you know you're dreaming, remember that waking yourself up isn't your only way out of a bad situation. There is no nightmare that you can't overcome with the knowledge that you're dreaming. It's hard to remember that when you're adrenaline's pumping, though.

Yes. I have had a lot of dreams in which the central theme of the dream involed a movie's plot or even it's soundtrack . It's definatley possible.

Dreams are full of anything you've seen or read about or imagined in the past.

I read Feet of Clay the other night (one of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett) and spent a dream on the Discworld, getting chased by golems (the book is about golems).

Last year I was dozing in front of the TV with my mother, and I caught sight, between sleeps, of a title of a TV episode of something that said "they do it with mirrors". In my dream later that night, I was near a circus, and there was a HUGE billboard on the fence that said in big red capitals "THEY DO IT WITH MIRRORS"

I was quite freaked out untill I tol my mother and she remembered where my brain picked it up!

Anyway, yesh. My dreams are always full of books and films. Someyimes just bits and peices, sometimes a whole dream takes on the theme.

Thanks for the input everyone. Definitly puts my mind to rest for another little while.
I do have another question tho.
Has anyone experimented with this before?

I've experimented with it a little. Watching a movie before bed works fairly well for me. I like to watch Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter or Braveheart or some cool movie like that before bed, and like 1/3 times I'll dream about that subject. I really wish I could just go lucid and teleport myself into whatever setting I want though, but I guess that will come with time

Just about anything can influence dreams I think.

I was just playing Condemned a couple of days ago and then I had a dream about being in the game. It was actually quite fun running around with a fire axe.

I watched the film 'Touching the Void' the other day, just before I went to sleep, and had a dream about climbing a huge mountain, with snow and wind gusting around me as I climbed.
I also had a dream about a bunch of Aliens chasing me after I saw the film ALIEN.
I think the more a film captivates you, the more likely you are to have a dream about it.

Well, I've had a number of movies affect my dreams, though it's usually just characters making an appearance. I've had Harry, Ron, and Hermione appear as well as Hugh Jackman as both Wolverine and Leopold. The Phantom has made 3 visits, I think, and so on.

I'm always hoping that I can have more dreams with my favorite characters, or become lucid and find them. As with lucidity in general, I think the more you think about the movie or book or whatnot, the more likely you will incorporate it into your dream.

I dreamt the other night about a film called The Deerhunter, that i had watched that day. If i try and make myself dream about something of my choice, it never works.
