      Question: Audio playback during sleep?

      Please share your experiences playing audio files during sleep or between dreams. For example, loops saying "I'm dreaming" or other instructions to become lucid or influence the dream content. Let's compile an archive of techniques, including experiments that failed so we know what to avoid.

      I've played beta/theta/ and all those waves while i sleep. I have had no luck with them. It does not feel like I can sleep. For example- I tried last night and turned them on, then I cant tell when I fell asleep, I look at my clock and its like 2 hours later. It felt like 1:45m just went out of nowhere. I know I must of fallen asleep but I never felt asleep.
      Anytime I play music when im sleeping and wake up 8 hours later, the night goes fast, but I never felt like i slept- felt like i was awake listening to the music the whole time but I WAS asleep. I guess this could be an easier dream sign, but I have had no lucids at all within a few weeks when i started to listen.

      I haven't had any luck with brainwave stimulation either and am currently experimenting with a Text-To-Speech program (TextAloud from NextUp.com) which converts text files into a voice. Very easy to use. I got the program up and running within 2 minutes of installing it and use the ATT Natural Voice "Crystal", which is lifelike and really pleasant to listen to. Highly recommended, beautiful natural voice, really charming. Not robotic.

      "Crystal" is a doll, very cute and sexy. I programmed her to say the follow message (some words are not spelled "correctly" but have been tweaked to make them sound more natural):

      Hello baby, it's me again. {{Pause=1}}
      I'm waiting for you in the dream world. {{Pause=1}}
      Come see me tonight, let's have a lucid dream together. {{Pause=1}}
      Now I'm going to help you become conscious in your dreams.{{Pause=3}}
      Tonight, reemember. Every time you dream.
      Tell yurself, I’m dreaming. {{Pause=3}}
      Say the words, I’m dreaming. {{Pause=3}}
      Again, say, I’m dreaming. {{Pause=3}}
      Recognize the dream world. {{Pause=3}}
      Realize you are dreaming. {{Pause=3}}
      Know you are dreaming. {{Pause=3}}
      Tell yurself, this is a dream. {{Pause=3}}
      Say the words, this is a dream. {{Pause=3}}
      Again, say, this is a dream. {{Pause=3}}
      Recognize the dream world. {{Pause=3}}
      Realize you are dreaming. {{Pause=3}}
      Know you are dreaming. {{Pause=3}}
      Tell yurself, this is the dream world. {{Pause=3}}
      Say the words, this is the dream world. {{Pause=3}}

      You're welcome to copy and paste this script into TextAloud. You'll be amazed how beautiful and charming her voice is. The Pause is the number of seconds between sentences. The entire script is 2 minutes long and is repeated 5 times for a total of 10 minutes. I burned it onto a CD which I play before sleep and between dreams. Started this experiment a couple of nights ago. So far no lucidity but I'm sure its just a matter of time before it kicks in.

      Having researched several text-to-speech programs, I was very impressed with TextAloud and highly recomment it. You can download a free trial version with Microsoft's "Mary", which is a low grade voice, bottom of the barrel, lot of clicks and thuds. Definitely worth the upgrade to "Crystal", which I find to be really a blast. She is so darn cute, I'm just waiting for her to appear in a dream...
