      Telling people that they dream

Sometimes, when I see my brother taking a nap on the couch I whisper "You are dreaming!" in his ear. He hasn't reported anything yet but I'm sure this would be accepted as a pretty friendly gesture if it worked...

      Do you ever do this?

I like that idea, it sounds fun.

A couple of times I have approached my brother while he is sleeping and said strange random things in his ear hoping they might influence his dreams. Odd nonsense like "Catch the black jelly beans!! HURRY!!", or "I left my Jacket hanging on the yellow tree".....just completely random wierd bulls**t like that. But after asking him if anything happened when he awoke, he reported nothing.

Another time I once had a conversation with my brother when he was dreaming, I walked into his room once while he was asleep, and he was vocalising his dream, he said "F**k off man! I didn't know it was yours, that other guy broke it!!" Or something around those lines. He sounded pretty distressed, so I decided to calm him down and I said. "Its cool man, don't worry about it, I can get a new one for free". Which could be interpreted as the person that was getting angry at him (as I assumed there was) has calmed down, or someone else has stepped in to settle the situation. Anyway, my brother was like "Cool man, Im glad we worked it out"....and I started talking crap like I did before, and he just replied with mumbling. So not really much of a conversation. Anyway I asked him about it after he got up, and he didn't really remember it until I told him what was said, then he vaguely remembered some of it.

It seems I am getting a little of topic. But basically it is obviously very possible to influence a persons dreams by speaking to them, and we have all seen and heard the lucid inducing mp3s floating about with people saying "You are dreaming" etc...and they seem to work. But I suppose the human element, and the fact that it is most likely you'll be doing it to someone you know (I would hope) and your voice would be a familiar one, so they might pay more attention. I would say it is certainly better then hearing the voice of a stranger, or your own voice adressing you, as familiar as it might be.

So thats my 3 cents, although, I haven't really tried it. It seems a bit of an strange scenario...

"Hey man, can i whisper things in your ear while your sleeping so that you might have a lucid dream?"
"While I'm alseep? A what dream?"

Heh, I'm not sure if that would work. Seems like it would, if you where already dreaming. Idk, but I'd sure like someone to do the same for me, lol.

I had a friend that whispered into someone else's ear "hello" and the other person while sleeping commented "hamburger". I don't believe that thinking is coherent in dreams a lot of the time.

That would be cool to make someone lucid in a precognitive state and find out who would win the next game.

If they haven't reported the whispering having any effect, it could well be that they just don't remember it. I've been told that I've said some strange things in my sleep, and my friends have said things to 'calm me down", and I responded. I remember none of it, though! For example, the morning after I slept at a best friend's, she told me that in the middle of the night I woke up and said, "Brittney, don't freak out, but there may be a chipmunk on your shoulder."

Hmm, I was thinking about that recently. It sounds like a good idea. I wouldn't necesarilly try to get someone lucid right away. I might mess with them a bit first. Making them believe I'm god or something. I'll have to be lucky enough for someone to talk in their sleep while I'm near first though.

Would the sleeping person remember anything you told them subconsiously? Seems like a good way to make sure your family gets you exactly what you want for christmas

why not shake him awake while he's in a deep sleep and say something like YOU'RE DREAMING! YOU'RE IN CONTROL! and then get out of there before he figures out what's going on and goes back to sleep. Might work like a WBTB, especially if you freak him out with the right message.

Great idea, but if someone shook me and yelled at me while I was asleep, it would just scare me to death. I don't know about everyone else...

I'd like some lucid dreamer couples (living together) to try this and tell if it works...

I don't sleep deeply, I wake up and immedietly react to the situation. So doing that to me would be a bad idea and would probably result in injury.
