      Is lucid dreaming hereditary?

Until this week, I never knew that this type of dreaming had a name to it. SO I looked it up on the web, and found this site. My brother, mother, and grandmother --all of us are what you would call "lucid" dreamers. We don't try to do it, we just do, it is our usual type of dream. Anyone else out there have this in their family, or know of any studies done on this?

      Regards,

I can't clearly give you an answer but I found out my sisters been having lucid dreams without knowing what they really were.

      Just like me.

      It might be hereditary.

i can honestly say that it is not passed down from generation to generation, because my parents only remember their dreams once every 2 months, and i dont believe that they have ever had a lucid dream in their lives, although the only family member i know has either lucid dreams or very vivid dreams was my nephew, but he doesnt have them anymore, so i believe that anyone can do it, its just that some have more difficulty than others, because of dream recall, my parents have around 2 dreams every 2 weeks, i on the other had have 2 dreams a day atleast. So the answer to your question is no, lucid dreaming is not hereditary although it could help you if your family do it aswell, because after hearing about your family and the other guys i am starting to wonder, but i still believe its not, but thats not a 100% no, its more like a 99 1/2 % no, more research is needed.

Well, I lucid Dream, and so do two of my cousins on my mothers side. Also my grandmother, when she remembers her dreams, knows shes inside her dreams. Im thinking that some people are more apt to expeirnce it naturaly, but everyone can learn it if they practice.

What they call a natural Lucid dreamer may be hereditary.
I believe it is a conditioned and learned response. There are cultures that the entire community LDs. Why? They do not think of it as something they cannot do. They have been taught from generation to generation. Unrefined!
The later in the game one gets started I think an individual may have more hurtles to face. Less REM sleep, less sleep period. Also a conditioned Brian that has to be taught a rather unique idea, moreover if it has yet to be exposed to the concept.
You can teach a dog new tricks IF.... they want to learn them.

Maybe it is really family conditioning as was stated. I remember from the time I was real small, during breakfast, my mother, grandmother, and I would discuss what we dreamed of the night before. Looking back at this, I'd say this probably had a big role in it.

One of my earliest memories is when I was 3 years old, and I had a nightmare, my dad picked me up and took me outside to look at the stars. He told me I was master of my dreams, and in dreams, anything is possible, as it is all make believe from my own mind. I can count the nightmares I've had since on one hand since. So I started playing 'make believe' in my sleep, and this helped me control what I was dreaming alot better. Now, when my dreams turn bad, I automatically go into lucid dreaming, and can change the situation I am dreaming about into something nice without fail. I actually like it when I can 'turn the tables'.

My dad doesn't remember any of his dreams, so doubt if his are LD, in fact, I don't think anyone on ny dad's side did, just my mom's. Maybe it runs on the mother's side? I think that whoever said it was a conditional thing was right.

Hmm, maybe. My daughter seems to have no ability, however, my son is 14 and has already had LDs, including WILD..

Though, tbh, its unlikely that its actually the DREAMING that's hereditary, more factors that make you more susceptible to having one :3
