      LDing for inspiration?

I had a very interesting thought. I'm an artist in my spare time, and while having a lot of problems with ideas lately I thought I'd try LDing to help me out.

I mean, if I entered an LD and walked around a corner with my intention firmly set for a totally original dream character to walk in (perhaps set a preference on what style of character, colour etc), would my mind actually create a totally original character? It would be extremely helpful for coming up with new characters for my art.

Has anyone else tried this? And if so, did it work well?

What kind of art do you do?

I don't typically do music, but had tried to learn guitar when I had time. LDs (even normal dreams) sometimes allow me to hear the most beautiful music where I wake up with tears or the like.

The problem is you would have to remember the details upon awaking. Depending on your level of skill, it may be hard to recreate a complex scene or score, even if you remember it clearly.

Personally, I love animation. My dream would be for someone to invent a device that records dreams (if that was possible).

And yes, you can create a totally new character. I had a dream about three nights ago of some cute looking bear character that had one eye (like a cyclops but furry).

Personally, I would recommend building my visualization skills. For instance, get a low light level where you can see the paper enough to draw on. Visualize something in your mind, and trace the outline of what you visualize. I have tried to work on that and use hypnosis to enhance it. so far, it has been hard to visualize stuff like this with my eyes open as if I were seeing it for real on the paper.

That is a great idea. Dreans have an awesome array of beautiful things in them. There are many things one could use as inspiration for their art.

      Thanks for the suggestions

Its mainly computer art (in photoshop), I'm not too good at landscapes, although dreams would make some awesome examples. I'm more into character art, I was just having problems thinking of ideas for new characters.

      Here's what I mean.

Did you see my post at http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30366

I posted a picture of Red XIII. He's my favorite character, though I don't know much about him. Perhaps you can use something like that as a starting point. He has a feather headdress, almost like native american style, but he has that Oriental look as well with the tattoos.

All completely possible and precisely why I love dreaming. Don't forget - you don't have to be lucid to get what you want. The important things are your imagination and your recall. If your recall's not brilliant, then I'd try getting just lucid enough to wake yourself up before the dream ends.

(And P.S. Red is my favourite Final Fantasy character.)
