      Increased Vividness

      Hello all,

Since I began experimented with lucid dreaming a few weeks ago, I have noticed a large increase in the vividness of my normal dreams. I have also begun to wake up into dream after dream after dream (much like in the movie "Waking Life"). I am curious to know if this is just specific to myself individually, or if any of you have noticed any similar changes. My dreams have increased in vividness so much and have become so emotionally involved and intense that a few nights ago I actually woke up crying (as a result of myself dieing and not being able to say goodbye to my brother). It also seems that everytime I wake up into a dream, the dream I wake up into becomes even more involved and realistic. I'm not sure if I appreciate this newly evolved characteristic of my dreams, but I am interested to see what it is capable of. I'd appreciate any thoughts you have on the matter : )

      Welcome to the forum

I think it's a good sign that your dreams are becoming more vivid. You may also find that this kind of thing goes in spurts - it may happen for a while, then you may lose it for awhile. Have you had any lucid dreams? Do you keep a dream journal? The dream journal will be a very important tool in determining dreamsigns - that way you can try to turn your vivid dreams into lucid ones. Check out the tutorials for more information.

      Good luck and have fun!

      Hi again,

Yes, I have had multiple lucid dreams. I'm still a beginner though when it comes to dream control. So far I have only experimented with changing the setting of the dream, making things levetate and fly around, and attempting (so far unsuccessfully) to fly. Also, I am in the process of writing a research paper for my college writing class on lucid dreaming. I am working on it as we speak. I have made some pretty interesting claims and a lot of my research has come from forums much like this one, as well as this one itself. So far I am absolutely fascinated by lucid dreaming and wish to pursue it to the extent of my ability. Unfortunately though, the last 4 or 5 times I have become lucid, I have woken up right away. It is becoming very frustrating but I'm going to start trying some new methods and hopefully that will clear things up. Anyways, it seems that I am babbling so I'm going to get back to my paper now . Adios.

well, you've got past the hardest part, becoming lucid, and knowing you are lucid in the first place. Many people struggle with it, myself included. All you need to do now is retain that control. Have you checked the Dream Control section or the tutorial for tips?
You say you've woken up four or five times, can you pinpoin why? Was it excitement at achieving something new?

Nope, i haven't had a chance to look at either of those because I've been so busy with school, but I certainly plan on it. If i had to pin point a reason why, I'd say that I didn't program well enough in my mind the intention of staying asleep after becoming lucid. The times that I have successfully become lucid and remained asleep, I had repitiously told myself to stay asleep after realizing it was a dream while going to sleep. These past times I wasn't as prepared. Also, much like the time when I tried to fly, I imagine that doubt and anticipation played a big role. Perhaps worrying about waking up was the trigger, much like in a self-fulfilling prophecy. I'll give those tutorials a look and rethink my strategies, thanks for the heads up!
