      1st person vs 3rd person.

Hey, guys. From the few dreams that I actually AM able to recall, I usually dream in 3rd person. As I start going down the path towards lucid dreaming, I'd like to know if there is an easy way to push myself to dream in the 1st person. To me, that just seems more realistic (and, therefore, enjoyable).

In 3rd person, it feels too much like im playing a game or watching a movie -- too "disconnected". I want to be right there IN the dream, 1st person.

Thanks for any info or advice.

So, you find that you're in 3rd person when you become lucid? Personally I always end up in 1st person when I become lucid, but anyway...

As for any aspect of controlling dreams, just get creative. Sometimes you have to be careful when closing your eyes, but you can try closing your eyes and imaging that what you're looking at is from a first person point of view. Also, become aware of your dream body and get a feel for how you are standing. Try walking forward and feel yourself do it. Feel free to get creative.

I can't really think of anything else.

Hmm... to be honest, I can't remember what #-person my lucid dreams were in. I can recall standing in front of a mirror for one of them, and looking at myself, but I can't remember if it was 1st or 3rd-person, because either way I was looking at my external appearance... yeah, i know; it's a little trippy.

The main point I want to bring up is that in the past, I have felt slightly "disconnected" from my dreams, no matter what person they are in.

Is this a problem that slowly lessens with time, or something that is expected/constant and you just live with it, or is this only because it's been so LONG since I actually had the dream (i.e. the passage of time makes it so that my memories of the dream feel more disconnected, and my actual dream was in fact very realistic).

Sorry... i know people are all indivudial with this stuff, and I'm asking question that people couldnt possibly know the answer to with regard to my personal experience... but is this something that other people have noticed?

I'd check out the post that Burns mentioned but I wanted to clarify 1st and 3rd person really quickly.

1st person = just like in real life, seeing through your own eyes and moving with your own body

3rd person = viewing what's going on from a "camera view"

You know, I've only had a handful of 3rd person dreams in my life, and even those kind of boiled down to 3rd person moments of a handful of dreams. I'd be interested in knowing which psychological factors separate the tendencies to 1st and 3rd person dream. Hmmm.....

Well you could use that 3rd person view as a kind of reality check...If you see you walking in a street, shouldn't you realise that your dreaming or something ? I guess it could help in some way...Then when you're lucid you can go back to 1st or IDK

Wow, that's really facinating! I've never had a dream in 3rd person. It's always 1st person. I didn't really know that you could dream in 3rd person, but I guess that it wouldn't be impossible.

My PoV swiches several times times in dreams. When I'm stuck in 1st person I sometimes find it hard to control myself.
