      Constantly Awake

This is my first post. The idea of Lucid Dreaming is certainley an intruiging one. Is it possible to sort of be almost constintley awake. Meaning that when you go to sleep you are in a lucid dream which becomes your reality for the time being which you of course are aware of, so when you wake up you realize you have been aware the whole time. You have technically been in a constant state of awareness. I don't know if this is at all possible, but if it is im sure its not very good for your brain, it wouldn't ever rest. With that being said, is your brain resting while in a lucid dream?

I think it is, there's not much difference between normal and lucid dreams.

this may not be wat u mean, but the ammount of time u would spend a night lucid dreaming, requiring the right ammount of REM sleep, would be quite short anyway, as u only dream for short intervals during the night, so even if u were fully aware in REM sleep, u'd get the rest u needed in nREM sleep regardless

You are still asleep when you dream. Dreams are just brain waves. Same with lucid dreams. Yes you are aware, but technically your asleep, you're just thinking. Take for example, you're actually just sitting, but you're thinking about a game. Are you playing that game? No, you're just thinking about it.

I think hollywoodbound understands that, because the question was whether or not the mind is at rest, not the body. If you're thinking about a game your mind still isn't completely at rest.

Either way, no matter what you don't dream all night because REM sleep only lasts for certain intervals throughout the night. I've often thought it'd be nice to be able to escape all night and live another life but even simply having a lucid dream every night is difficult, but very possible as some people are able to achieve this. Ultimately, their mind still gets the required rest it needs because this does not last all night.

      Okay...
I do know what you mean, and yes, I have done this many times.
It is not harmful, because in the end, what's the worst that can happen? You lose some sleep? I've never done this for over a few minutes at a time.

In a normal lucid dream, you are still asleep, but you are conscious within that dream.

In the circumstance that you are mentioning, you would be conscious and aware, WITHOUT INTERRUPTION, all the way through the dream, and then back out again. This is still lucid dreaming, and my BEST lucid dream of all was done this way.

      Thanks

Thanks everyone for your responses. Understand I am in the very early stages of learning about these lucids. I wasnt aware that they are only one dream in the plethora of ones you'll have in one day. I figured since you have control over the dream, you'd realize it was over and then wake up...

We're all learning here. That's what this place is for.

And it can be more than one dream per night, for the lucky ones. Heh.

No no. You try not to wake up. Or, if you do wake up, you just go back to sleep. Or, you will set yourself up to have one, and have it in the middle of the day.
