Being awake, while the body is sleeping

Hi, this is my first topic on this site.

I just had an weird expirience while trying to sleep. The thing was that I was tring to sleep like any normal person, but I got stuck several times in that process. While being aware of that I'm awake but not being able to move my body at all. My first thought was that I should trie to move my arm to wake myselfe up, that worked one time. The second time I tried to sleep I got the same issue, but this time I moved my neck a little and woke up. This kept going on and on, but all in one night. Finally when movning any part of my body didn't help me to become awake, I thought that I should just relax try to fall asleep while being i that situation. This is the not so pleasant part... My body started to shiver, felt a unpleasant sensation from my back up to my head. Then it started to "boil" in my head, and a feling of pressure in the head, getting stronger all the time. When the pressure was at max, I saw a bright light in my head and shortly after a girls voice screamig "GOD". That just freaked me out.

I hope any one cant help me sort this thing out

      Hey, welcome to the site!

It sounds to me like what you're experiencing is a combination of sleep paralysis and hypnogogic imagery. As you are falling asleep, your brain locks your muscles in place to prevent them from moving while you enter REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. This is why you cannot move them, and why you feel the pressure. As well, because you are stuck between a waking and dream state, your mind is experiencing hypnogogic imagery, while you are aware.

I have had something similar to me happen, though not nearly to the extent that you described. I was able to close my eyes and control my mind into a dream state to become lucid.

      Hope I helped.

I've talked to alot of people recently who suffer from sleep paralysis, which happens to alot more people than you'd expect. What you have to know is that its completely normal, and in some ways advantagous, once you understand them more. There are also plenty of articles on the forums and on the internet about the subject if you want to know more

See thats the type of thing I've been trying to do
Stay conscious as my body falls asleep
      you must have a gift!
but what the other person said was completely correct
      that would be scary
but it is just a mixture of sleep paralysis and hynagogic imagery for sure
don't be freaked out if it ever happens again
      stay conscious and go lucid!
