      Scared before LD

hey guys, i'm new here. so i thought i'd just ask a couple of questions (probably simple for you guys ) ok my first one is:

alright, i've been trying LD's for about 3 or 4 nights now, as i recently got my DR up to about 2 or 3 dreams a night....

the first time i attempted an LD i think i tried VILD, the visually induced tech. i began experiencing some pretty strange things, my body felt very weird and after a while of doing the tech my heart started beating exremely fast, even though i was relaxed. this completely ruined my "state" and made me a little edgy.

last night i attempted FILD as i've heard pretty good stuff about it. i set my alarm for 5 and woke up very tired, and started doing the tech. after about a minute of doing the tech (i had a few failed RC's) my heart started beating really really fast AGAIN. this pissed me off because i was really confident i was getting somewhere.... i also became pretty scared, as i've never had an LD i really didnt know what to expect, and since FILD makes you "wake up" in your bedroom (my bedroom at night is not the most comforting and nice place) i was pretty damn edgy about it all....

can someone please explain my annoying heart beating problem, and maybe explain why i'm getting scared all of a sudden? (sorry if this is already a topic)

      thanks guys.

I've never felt similar thing in my VILD attempts, which have been quite a lot lately.
So I'm just assuming that this accelerated heart rate could be that you're anxious about LD'ing, and somewhat stressing for the technique to work.
This may be why I never experienced it - don't stress about it, but don't ignore it either, just be aware of what you're doing and why you're doing it but don't stress too much over it.. It's a little hard to put it to words, but I hope it was helpful.

Agree with above poster. Had the heart-beating thing too. It means you're not mentally calm. The things you possibly can experience with any variation of WILD and in LDs anyway can be very exciting. Don't get too hyped up about them or you'll not progress into the dream.

people often experience a huge rise in their heartbeat right before they go into sleep paralysis, (usually when WILDing) I myself have never experienced this though

the fear is natural, I get it all the time when getting up early to WILD

I had the excact same probleme. After my first attempt to VILD, my heart started to beat extremely fast (probably due to a state my body has never felt - at least not when councious).
I tried VILDing again, and my heart and body were way calmer about the state, though the attempt failed against, since I had to breath more. If you try again, then don't supress the need for air. It's almost impossible to supress the need for air.

My best hint is to practice is more. Eventually, your body will get used to it, and you will succeed . I am still practicing VILD. I believe it's the best technique for me.

      Just keep trying

      Hi, welcome to the forum

I usually notice a change in my heart rate when ever I WILD, and I usually end up doing WILD when ever I try any other technique.

You just seem to be slipping into the first stages of WILD, just ride it out, the dream will come sooner or later.

      Good luck

I used to become scared when I started to WILD, and now that I know that feeling is a very good thing, I've conditioned myself to welcome it sooner. It is a very scary feeling though.
Like last night, I had one, and I quickly realized what was happening. I 'jumped' right into a dream. I think that feeling is part of the body secreting the chemical to paralyze the body during REM (I'm guessing.)
Focus intently on remaining calm the entire time you're in bed. this should keep your mind busy while your body falls asleep. Everytime you have an itch or a sensation on your body, focus on making it go away. There is usually enough of itches to keep your mind from wandering.
Happy LDs, and just remember to let the feeling envelope you.

I haven't had a pure LD yet, but I have had similar experienced with the milder forms of LD I've had. I just kept reassuring myself, over and over "I am safe" and relaxed into it. I know that sounds stupid and hokey, but it's what worked for me. Good luck!

OH, and by the way i forgot lol
this morning i woke at around 7ish, and decided to try FILD. i was REALLY tired because i had been watching the soccer (germany and argentina ) so i started the tech and after about 10 seconds of doing it i think i mustve drifted off to sleep. because i remember vision of me lying in my bed, and all of a sudden something (some being of some sort i have no clue) screaming GARR! at me and waking me up instantly, it scared the shit out of me aswell but the thing is it felt just like i was in real life, i was just lying there normally and i didnt even suspect i was in a dream, yet i could control myself and act for myself. was this a partial LD or something?????

My heart jumps sometimes as well when i attempt to go lucid.

Its really normal as humans get excited or scared when they try to experience some thing new.

I've only had one this once, but it was the most intense feeling I've ever felt... ever. It was like a heart-beat at 300bpm all over my body with strong fuzzy electricity jolting through it, it was not very pleasent. I could not continue because it actually got painful.

My heart was beating fast... but no where near as fast as I felt during that SP episode. I'd estimate I was maybe going around 120bpm when I snapped out of it, but I was scared shitless at the time when it happened.

You can feel the wierdest things in a WILD..
