What you have is a reoccurring Dream or a reoccurring Dream Motif. the reason this dream reoccurrs is because you are getting some choice wrong. The Dream reoccurs in order to give you second and third chances to get it right.
Well, besides the 'naked in public' dream motif, one of the most common Dream Motifs is the 'Losing Something But Can't Find It' dream motif. This is what I think you landed yourself into.
the Answer here is to not go for the bait. heck with the Potato. yes, I know that in your job you have to take orders. But you Job is handled by your Waking Self, and he will do just fine. But your Dreaming Persona doesn't need to care so much, does he? So as many times a day as you can, remind yourself that in your dreams you should NEVER look for anything lost, or even find your way if you are lost yourself. Now, you don't have to become Lucid for your Dream Persona to remember this advice during a Dream, though the realization that your Dream Persona is taking advice from the Waking Persona may well stir the Lucid Impulse. Just be aware that long before they knew about Lucid Dreaming, people had been doing very pointed and constructive Dream Work.
What happens in a dream when you quit the looking for things lost is that you will either immediately find them... usually a DreamCharacter will step forward with the object, or with directions. Or you find that you simply don't need the darn thing anymore.
