      Wouldn't it be cool if...

There was more dream technology out there? More specifically I was thinking of two things.

      1. A device or pill that could make you able to harness the full power of the subconcious while awake! Be able to have such a vivid imagination would be great! No drugs involved either. (I\'m so lazy >.<)

I am lazy myself, but suprisingly do not mind writing my dreams down. It seemed to have fit in perfectly with my schedule... Usually what I did is just lay and roll around my bed for 45 mins before I actually got up.. But now it helps me wake up! But ya man the video format thing would be pretty sweet, but expensive

And one last thing... what what we do without pr0n?

Then dreams wouldn't be personal anymore! It's an amazing idea i have thought of before...but everyone would be able to invade the private life of your dreams...

It might help fight crime also...but thats the only good side perhaps.

You could delete the dreams in the morning if they are too private. That might work.

The technology needed for this would have to be phenomenal though.

You'd have to record your brainwaves and then somehow convert them into images... if that's even possible.

I read that they (they meaning the government) have a device now to proceed the Lie detecter test which is close to reading your rudemantary thoughts. And from what I understand, what we know and what the government knows is approximantly a 10 year differance.

i'm sure it's only a couple decades or so away..

although, i'm pretty sure it'll be so confusing and senseless you wouldn't even be able to interpret your own dreams..

That's far into the future...recording dreams with technology.

Can't say it couldn't be done..

Just because you could record your dreams wouldn't mean they would be more public than they are if you write them down. Could even be the opposite, have the machine record your dreams during the night but store them in an encrypted form with a password only you know (or a thought perhaps...). I suppose a lot of people here keep their journal in paper-form and that's not very secure.
Also, would you record only images and sounds (not so difficult) or all sensory input and motory output?

And the fact remains that if you were so concerned about your security, you could just not use the machine.

Hm, Stalker has a point. I've underestimated the complexities of such a device. It'd be nearly impossible to just have it all magical and record your dreams "just like a movie" to a fancy, compact, encrypted DVD .

I don't think you'd have to be bothered with recording all sensory input/output, because you could never really re-endure those again. We have only our stupid eyes and ears to bring back the memories. 'course, that far into the future, I'm sure those little scent-boxes will be popular, and maybe some sort of pressure suit for ai/virtual reality will be created. So then, yeah, then it'd be just like living in real life, experiencing the past dreams..

I'm not sure how it is with dreams but don't the images we see and sounds we hear take the same ways as when we are awake? The technology to feed image and sound data to our brains already exists (cybernetic eyes and ears) and recording those data should actually be easier. I don't know how high quality you would need but it shouldn't be too difficult to get at least a couple of hours onto a DVD.
(I have thought about these things before but for a different reason)

Oh, and you could sell your dreams.

It could be a whole new business.

And friends would trade dream dvds like trading cards...

      Ok I'll shut up now...
