Last night I had a pretty weird dream. I was just having a normal day (in the dream) and then I realized that I was dreaming. However, right then everything changed (like I had woken up). But, I didn't wake up, I was still in the dream. I was thinking to myself (in the second part of the dream) that I had had Lucid Dream; that I had remembered my dream from the previous night and that somehow contributed to it. What I want to know is, how can I use this experience to my advantage?

That is a false awakening. It happens sometimes when you go lucid. In my experiences they are very real and can be annoying if you don't realise you are still sleeping.
You can use it to your advantage by doing a reality check each time you wake up, this will help you notice you are dreaming if you have another FA.

Hope that helps.

I dont know if you are trying to follow the tutorials on this and other websites to attain lucidity already, but if you are I would say just keep going.

It sounds like a simple false awakening. I had some of those before I managed to become lucid first. It is just a sign that you are becoming aware of your dreams while still in a dream.

Others have suggested to get accustomed to doing reality checks whenever you wake up so you could know a flase awakening from a true one and thus make use of that phenomenon to become lucid.

hope I understood you right...

I just consider the fact that I even had a lucid dream was a great experience. I hope I can do it again. I actually had one about 4 years ago or so and I remember saying to myself "this must be a dream". I don't remember much else about it though. If you have any more tips or thoughts let me know!

I've only had one in my lifetime. It was part of the Oprah Winfrey nightmares (yes, laugh away ) and I was probably in 1st grade. I had a dream, in a dream as well. I was on the playground, and some of the kids looked like they were mind-controled. I can't remember everything, so I woke up from that dream, into my "master" dream I guess I should call it. And I couldn't control myself. I heard like these people playing cowbells and hitting boards with sticks. I reached and grabbed a chocolate bar and threw it at the edge of my door. I woke up into reality. My dreams were very, very strange as a child.

can FA's always happen when you go lucid or is it a rare thing?
An Idea. A single idea from the human mind can build cities. An idea can transform the world and rewrite all the rules.

I think it can happen in any dream, cause I know I've had it happen quite a few times that I can remember. Plus, I don't remember all of my dreams, so it's probably not too rare. It probably depends on the person though, but as for me I would say it's moderately common.

In my case I have more false awakenings 'after' a lucid dream than regular dreams.
Acutally, I'm hard pressed to remember a regular dream in which I had a FA.
They're not rare at all.

FA's are the best sign to me that i am dreaming. They scare you if you dont know what they are before they happen. I had one before i knew about lucid dreaming and i thought i was near death or paralyzed. Once you know you are having a FA it's almost impossible not to become lucid and in control

They happen very frequently when you try to go lucid, and infrequently (I wouldn't say rarely) when you're not trying to go lucid (but you may be on the verge of going lucid).

If you've been lucid dreaming for a long time, you'll realize that your brain doesn't like it when you have control, so it tries to get the upper hand. False awakenings are a technique of the brain to regain control by making you think that you're back in reality. They're a bad technique, though, because they're easy to get around: just get into a habit of doing a reality check every time you wake up. You may notice, though, that your brain also tries to stop you from performing reality checks, by turning off clocks and watches. If you don't remember turning them off or unplugging them, you are probably in a dream.

Philisophical/spiritual tangent:
It seems funny that I refer to the brain as a separate entity; what are "you" if you are not your brain? But you will soon realize that you are not your brain, because as I said above, you are "battling" with it every time you try to lucid dream. Lucid dreams can be a spiritual tool, in a way. You will discover that the brain is simply a tool that likes to have control and wants you to identify with it so that it has all the power, but "you" are something very different: a manifestation of a formless consciousness.

Ive only ever had 1 Lucid Dream... and its led to an instant FA... that lasted like 10 sec... if that...

The thing you said about your brain being seprate and not wanting you to have Lucid dreams... wouldnt that make Lucid dreams bad then... liek your not ment to have them.. and dose it really try hard to stop you becoming lucid??!? lol if that makes any sence
