      sleeping disorders

what kind of sleeping disorders do you guys have?

when i was a kind i used to have horrible nightmares that would make me scream in my sleep. alas, i was never able to recall them. -- i haven't had one of those (that i know of) for a couple years now.

Hey, I'm new to the forums.

I have sleep paralysis; I've had it all my life (latest one was this morning actually).

Anyway, I have been to a "sleep doctor" a few times. I have had 2 sleep studies. They found that I go into REM sleep unusually fast and have an unusual amount of REM sleep.

I am a natural born lucid dreamer; I think this REM sleep stuff might be part of the reason.

so every other person is paralized when they try to get up in the morning? thats weird.

really, Paperdoll, i think you know what I mean, but if you don't...

      "What is sleep paralysis?

Sleep paralysis consists of a period of inability to perform voluntary movements either at sleep onset (called hypnogogic or predormital form) or upon awakening (called hypnopompic or postdormtal form).

Sleep paralysis may also be referred to as isolated sleep paralysis, familial sleep paralysis, hynogogic or hypnopompic paralysis, predormital or postdormital paralysis"

for the rest of the artical go to http://www.stanford.edu/~dement/paralysis.html

did I say \"when they try to get up in the morning\"? no. I said when they sleep. Sleep Paralysis is totally natural. it is not necessarily a disorder.

Sleep Paralysis is a natural bodily function that causes us to be paralyzed during sleep. It prevents us hurting ourselves or others during dreams. It's when it follows us into the waking state that it becomes a disorder.[/b]

very true, my bad, i must have read it wrong

but, i am not sure why you said "and so does every other human being on the planet when they go to sleep." This has nothing to do with the disorder.

the disorder is when you are still paralysed when you wake up or when you become paralysed when you go to sleep. of couse everyone is paralysed when they are asleep

exactly. what's annoying me is that you keep saying you have "sleep paralysis" as if it were a disorder. if you have a sleep paralysis disorder, then say so. think of it this way: a group of people are discussing disorders. you say, "I sleep." well of course you do, and so does everyone else on the planet. if you have a sleep disorder, then say so! "I have a sleep disorder." or "I have a sleep paralysis disorder." make sense NOW?

no, not just in a thread about sleeping disorders, you made another thread asking people if they have "sleep paralysis" here.

      but whatever.

yea this is true, but you can tell by their respsonses they knew what i meant.

it seems you are on my case about something that is not very much of an issue, but like you said... "whatever"
