Thread: we need a moderator

Hey all,

When I first started this forum I was hoping to be able to devote more time to reading and answering posts. Sadly, that is simply not the case because I have too many other obligations. I've also been meaning to update the site itself with a lot more helpful information relating to lucid dreaming, but just can't seem to find the time right now.

Anyway, I would like to find a moderator to help watch over the board, answer questions whenever possible, and generally help maintain some level of civility. Please reply here if interested. I'll try to choose someone in a couple weeks.

Ummm with all due respect, I dont think Paperdoll fits the exact uhhhh model of a moderator, (Moderators, Prevent problems, not cause them)
Sorry if that was Blunt.

I'm not saying that I'm the man for the Job, but if you feel that I am the One, then I'd love to.

P.S.S. maybe you can have the Members vote on a Mod ice, that way the people have who they think would be best. ( I Mean, no offense but you don't exactly spend alot of time on here ) Anyways, Thats just what I think.

Yes Rtex is right. Members should nominate who they think is appropriate, then a poll should be held to see who becomes MOD... I vote for Gary Coleman... oh wait wrong election!

I can be a moderator.

I don’t remember a time where I caused problems (except when I said I go on raping sprees in dreams, I only meant I just have sex a lot that’s all, not rape... I cant help my sex drive which will enslave me till I die ).

I also am here a lot, and have had MOD'ing experience.

Anyhow, I wanted to say that I am mod on other forums as well. Not like I think I'm going ot be the mod or anything. but ya know, hey, can't hurt anything.

Thanks for the suggestion. This was actually a spur of the moment idea, after I read a particular thread--which is now locked--that I felt greatly surpassed the intended scope of this forum, and was succeeding not at informing anyone, but instead causing animosity. Discussing beliefs is fine--although outside this forum's scope--but arguing beliefs is a fool's errand. Our beliefs are instilled within us as we experience life, and a message forum isn't going to change that.

Anyway, I'll accept nominations for a week or so and then create a poll. I'm still not completely sold on the idea of selecting a moderator at all, because I have no idea who is capable of monitoring the forum w/o resorting to a dictatorship.

Seriously, I've modded other forums before (one was an Ultima Online forum) so I do have some experience. I'm not easily offended and I don't judge anyone so tyranny won't be an issue. I also make cookies.

no really, i think i could straiten up and be a MOD...i'm not stupid. i've never been one before, but i've made well over a thousand posts at another php forum so i know my way around..

I don't think we need a mod, I think that we're all ok now. Things got out of hand, I agree. Some people might still trying to be instigators, but... it's hard not to say ANYTHING about your beliefs when your discussing something as personal as your dreams. I think we should all just try and remember to be nice. It is JUST a forum, and holds no real precedence in any of our lives, except the wonderful exchange of ideas that happens here. I personally would like to continue this exchange of ideas, and hopefully not have it be limited because some of us(including me) got out of hand. But that's just my opinion, I have nothing to do with the site, and I support icedawg in any decision he makes.

um, i would like to apologize once again for offending anyone..

I certainly don't want to discourage the exchange of ideas at all. From the start I had wanted a moderator, but at the time the board had almost no users, so it was essentially pointless. Although it's still a relatively small board, and has been running quite well on auto-pilot since I put it up in June, I can imagine future problems might yet arise (such as personal attacks, etc.) Plus, I think some people just may feel a little more comfortable knowing someone is perusing the posts and looking out for the best interests of everyone. I'm not going to present the selected moderator with a list of topics that will not be tolerated; instead, he or she will simply be asked to help keep the peace.

Sounds like a good idea icedawg, as I stated before, you have my full support. Flame wars are lame, and your right that the potential for those starting here is there(as it is everywhere). Moderators are cool, as long as they have the time to check stuff and the ability to not be too biased or get involved in crap.
