I just had a question. If you are blind, do you see things when you dream? and if so, wouldnt it be ridiculously easy to realise you are dreaming if your blind? All you have to do to know that you're dreaming....is see something

      just a thought

If a person has been blind since birth, they have tactile dreams (feeling.) If they could see at one point in their lives and remember it, they have the ability to "see" in dreams. So I agree, in the second case of those two, it would seem that it would be a pretty obvious dream sign.

      Here's an idea:

Wear a blindfold. Wear it until you have a lucid dream. It would be a lot like that thing where the guy didn't talk or eat untill he had a lucid dream except if you used a blindfold then you would have an obvious dream sign like you guys said.

The only problem is that you would have to walk around and go to work/school with a blindfold on. I guess you could always do it durring winter vacation or just on the weekends if you have school.

      What do you guys think?

... Not very practical. I mean a blind person has people and maybe a dog helping him/her do basic things that need sight. No one's gonna volunteer to help some guy who feels like wearing a blind fold

they would dream sounds and senses if blind from birth, and im guessing, if they were blinded past a conscious age (not like baby, maybe 4+) they might always dream the things they have seen in their time with sight...

I was thinking, people who are not blind have good dream signs too, they just can't get themselves to think during the dream "Hey, am I dreaming?". And I think it's the same with blind people, it just seems normal to them in the dream...so I guess it all comes down to teaching one's self to ask the questin as much as possible "Am I dreaming?".

Concerning the question, I agree with Theresa.

The point of dream signs is to trigger a reality check, Neil, so that wouldn't happen.

Anyway, it's weekend now, and I would try the blindfold thing, if my mom wasn't home hehe

A way easier way to do that is to wear a blindfold when you go to bed, and if you see in your dream you know you're dreaming.

I assume so because when I was learning AP there was an technique that the guy wrote it about and he came up with it when he was working with a blind person to teach him how to project.

i think, if blinded past a concious age where you can vaguely remember what things look like you would have regular dreams like most people do. think about it:

we have dreams about things we have never see or imagined before on occasion. if we can make pictures of things like this through only mental thoughts, why can't blind people?

that is to saw that what most blind people think something looks like wouldn't exactly be correct, but i still think they would have some image of it.

First of all, as was said before, blind people that have seen can have dreams with sight, but those that have not, (practically) can't. Of course, technically, anything is possible in dreams, but it can be compared to inventing a 6th sense for anyone that has the other 5 working. Sure, you can think of one and imagine how it would feel (might be an idea for a LD btw...). Someone who hasn't experienced sight can imagine what it's like too, but he won't experience the actual thing, and just as we normally don't have a 6th sense in our dreams (at least I don't >.>), they don't have a fifth.

It's different for blind people who have experienced sight. These people know what it's like and as such, can have dreams where they can see. However, most of the time they will have dreams without sight (unless they've gone blind very recently). After all, most dreams represent our daily lives and all dreams are largely a result of our expecation. This means that if a person is used to being blind and expects it, they probably will be blind in their dreams even though they have known sight.

Finally, while it may seem that having sight in your dreams when you're blind is an easy way to become lucid, this might not be as simple as it seems. Of course, I'm not blind myself (I probably woulda made more typos...) so I can't speak from personal experience, but almost every morning, the dream I was having before I woke up contained something at least as weird as a blind person seeing, and still I haven't had a lucid dream for almost two months (sucks to be me ). The main problem is that our awareness is greatly lowered in dreams. Knowing some good dreamsigns definitly is important, but without being aware, it doesn't matter what your dream throws at you, you won't see through it.

perhaps a blind person will stumble across this thread and fill us in...i too have thought about this idea...not just with blind folks, but the deaf also. it'd be a nice thought, people who lack these senses are given the gift to master their dreams. but yeah, it's unlikely someone could see in their dreams if they've always been blind. don't you hate how low awareness is in dreams? i feel like such a dumbass anytime i can't figure out it's a dream.

I doubt it. I imagine being blind makes it hard to read this forum...

      Interesting topic.

I was thinking the other day: if a person blind from birth sees in dreams, does that prove the possibility of the existence of past lives?

no it would just prove that even though they cant see the parts of the brain responsible for sight are still active in the sight process

Haha, quite true. Or they should have some software that reads out every bit of text for them. But I doubt alot of people have that. It would kind off constantly read the wrong stuff too, like :"logged in as: blinddude' (log out)" and such.

Anyhow, blind people that are blind from birth dream in sounds and smells. People that have gotten blind can still dream visually. For them, Lucid dreaming is even more cool To bad exactly that are the people that have a hard time finding it in the internets <=/

It's funny I found this thread, as I was thinking this exact same thought a few weeks ago.

In my opinion, they have to see things they imagine. With the mind being so powerful, you would believe some sort of simplistic realm would be created in their dreams through previous touch. I.E. smooth hallways/rooms in one color etc. Maybe even smooth beings comprised of how they believe they look.

A little off subject here, but I've always wondered what a blind person sees on LSD, since the optic nerve need not be involved.

Any blind forums around these days? (that's a joke, but who knows with technology today)

I actually used to have a friend who was blind from birth, who I talked to about lucid dreams. (Well, he was about 90% blind. He was born with detached retinas, so he could only see about 2 feet in front of his face.) He said he did have lucid dreams on rare occasion. He also said that he always just grabbed the nearest chick and started having sex with her, lol.

Anyway, he said his dreams were just like his waking life in terms of what he could see (practically nothing). So the general consensus here on this thread is correct.

Ahh, interesting. I guess the dream mind trys to stick with the "reality" of it all in a sense, or at least what may be near believable for the dreamer.

You could explain it that way, but I'd say when a born blind person said they could see in their dreams, they'd likely be lying.
