Can anyone tell me how they get ready to "sleep", as I have some trouble in this area. |

I'm tired being sorry.
Try imagine a song in your head. Not any words, just piano, symphonic and stuff like that. Don't struggle to imagine it, but make sure you "hear" it all the time. Don't try to clear your mind, don't think "I am doing this to fall asleep" just do it. It's pretty hard, but it works well for me |

What might also help you relax (I just recently discovered it works for me) is, |

I do physical Relaxation and then Energy raising if I'm planning on lucid dreaming. After the energy raising if I'm tired I'd fall right asleep. |

Chronic sleep deprivation works well for a good night's sleep but not so good for lucid dreaming. |

I read. I read until I can't keep my eyes open anymore. Then I put my book down and drift away quickly. I've been reading consistently for years just before bed. I can't imagine not being able to read before I sleep. Gonna suck when I have to give it up during basic training. I find the best reading to be fantasy and science fiction because your reading something that is almost a dream world. I would love to be able to jump into some of the stories I read. |

I usually make up scenarios in my head. I'd imagine myself doing something I really want for example. The first night it takes a long time to go to sleep (I'm excited to think out the ENTIRE scenario, but if the second night you're going to make up your same favorite scenario, you fall asleep sooner (you've already done it, so it's less interesting. |

You know, that actually seems to work for me too (though I never realized it), I sometimes unconsciously do it, and the first night I just can't fall asleep, but then the next it's easier since I've already played it out. You may be onto something, I'll give it a try. Any scenario ideas though? |

Start doing a regular routine of tasks or feel good things before bed so that it calms you down and after it has been established will put you to sleep. |

When I go to sleep, I just sort of try to "feel" my way into sleep. |

I've recently had some success with a certain method, but it's only for relaxing ones mind. If your body isn't letting you sleep (i.e. restless leg syndrome) then I don't know any solutions. |
