      Unhappy

It’s about 11pm. I’m in my apartment in Lower Manhattan. I’ve been cleaning my house and sort of throwing all stuff that I really don’t need in a spare room next door to my bedroom; ex: spare bed frames, mattresses, stereo system, boxes, books, clothes etc…When I’m about ready to turn in for the night, as I’m laying in bed, I begin to hear jitter jotter come from the next room, sounded like something moving, I assumed it was a mouse moving around the plastic bags looking for food, being that I lived on the ground floor of a building and it was winter, I made my self believe it was a mouse and nothing more. Upon falling asleep I heard it again and wanted to go investigate it but was too tired and fell asleep. Hours later I awoke from sleeping on my facing the west wall of my room. My eyes were already adjusted to the dark and I saw everything clearly though it was pitch black I saw a sort of fade light on the room which helped my eyes see in the pitch black of darkness. And heard the sound even louder, I immediately tried to turn over to face the east wall of my room toward where the door of my room is located, and found that I was paralyzed, couldn’t move my arms and barely jiggled my body and toes around, I was like a dying squirming fish and was stuck on my side facing the wall not able to see what was in my house, it really bothered me that I was stuck in such a vulnerable position at this time, I glanced at my digital clock on my radio and saw it was about 4am. I then felt the presence of an entity in my apartment coming towards my room door from where I heard the sounds. The strange feeling became greater when I then felt someone in my room. Still trying to squirm over to see who it was, the presence was strong and I was sure that an entity or person was in the room walking I heard the footsteps in my room and immediately began sweating profusely and my heart racing. All I could use was my ears to determine where in my room this thing was and this was quite a vulnerable feeling I felt and heard the being walking around my bed coming towards my sight of vision at the west wall of my room, waiting desperately to see what this was I had my eyes fixed on the side where this being would approach me, and went into extreme panic when I saw a silhouette pure black of a person the being then quickly went towards my face and stared at me, no eyes, no features, just a black silhouette, then the being grabbed one of my pillows and smothered me and suffocated me. I moved about to no avail and went unconscious smothered to death by a pillow. Hours later I had a FA, False Awakening, and I saw myself sleeping in bed, I actually woke up from my body and left it and stood beside my bed watching my lay there still, I then saw an Indian figure and it told me to contact someone in the real world to wake me up, I tried calling my girlfriend at the time to tell her to wake me up, what ended up happening was she appeared in my dream and I wasn’t able to contact her in real life. I then felt like I would be stuck in the dream for eternity as the Indian told me I would if no one ever woke me up and I lived alone! Hours later I woke-up soaked in sweat, still thinking for about 5 minutes that a figure would come in a suffocate me with a pillow, I got up and searched the room with a fine toothed comb and found nothing to prove a being was actually there. That was the most vivid recollection I have in SP and I won’t ever forget it, to this day I tell people this and they really get freaked out and scared. Was I lucid or not? If I was dreaming and was Lucid I couldn’t move due to SP. Has anyone experienced something similar is there someone who can break down what exactly happened to me, if so please do… Thanks

Probably just a false awakening, because if it was real world you would be able to move no matter what. Only in dreams it was ever hard for me to move no matter how much I tried. Just the other day I had a dream where in the dream I fell asleep and when I woke up my uncle and a worker was in the backyard and set off a dynamite that blew up and I thought it was real because the fire on the 2nd floor was real the explosion was real and it was just chaos. But in the end I really woke up and I was always sleeping.

Far out Dream Catcher NYC! That sounds like an out-of body experience-at first it sounded like you died and then your spirit left your body! I'm probably wrong though, you woke up, and with little evidence that all that happened (apart from the experience itself).

Anyway, I think it was a vivid lucid dream of a deep fear, accompanied by false awakenings.

your actually dead right now and this is all a lucid dream!! (hahah thought i would pull some vanilla sky shit lol). No but really it was probably an awakening into sleep paralysis. Much like "the HAG" it is what your mind made up of your deepest, and darkest fears.

This isn't unique, this is typically Old Hag, exactly what you described.

SP is not a FA, it could be, but in most cases it is not.

I had so many of those experiences when I was younger, and they really sucked. Though mine never got as bad as you described. I was always felt this presense in my room, slowly getting closer... and closer... I would seriously feel it like a foot away from me, and then I would be able to get myself out of Sleep Paralysis, waking up freaked. I always brushed them off a typical nightmare I'd suffer once in a while thinking it was actually a dream. I've never had a visual, it was always just outside my line of vision plus I was way to afraid to look over toward the middle of the room if I had the ability to.

The worst I've had was a few months ago, shortly after I found this site. I woke up in SP, and felt like something was sitting on me. I turned my head (my vision was super horrible, everything was a light blur), and it felt like something grabbed my throat and started choking me, and I started breathing really hard and fast (I could even smell blood while I breathed out which scared the crap out of me). Realizing that I could breathe, I was able to calm down, and get myself out of it - but it wasn't as scary as what I've felt when I was younger, not even close.

And you had a OBE. During OBEs you don't actually leave your body. Let's be realistic, science would have detected energy movement if OBEs were real by now - but it's still very possible that dream worlds and the physical world are connected in some way. I mean everything is made out of one common thing: energy...

I don't think you were lucid. Not even close. You were way to caught up in your emotions to know what exactly was going on.. If you were lucid (and knew about SP), then SP really shouldn't be frightening.

      Hello.
I don't think anyone can tell you for sure what the nature of your experience really is (Out of Body Experience, Lucid Dream, etc) just by reading your description of it.

However, what I can tell you is that some people believe that black entities which attack you are your past life creditors. You owe them a debt in your past life (or past lives) and hence their hatred towards you in this life.

Personally, I think it is possible you were really attacked by a malevolent entity.

I would advise that you do Metta or Loving-Kindness meditation (though I haven't really practised this myself). You could send out feelings of loving-kindness the next time you are threatened by such an entity.

For me, if I were under attack, I would either do the above or recite my Guan Yin Protection mantra or some other Buddhist mantra.

In the dark depths of the middle of the night you are woken suddenly with a feeling of evil surrounding you, you can't breathe and your chest is heavy, is someone pressing down on you or trying to suffocate you?
To your horror you can't move, something is holding you down! You think you can hear voices and see a dark shadowy figure swooping around your bed...are you being visited by Demons or are you merely suffering an episode of Sleep Paralysis?

      S L E E P P A R A L Y S I S
      O L D H A G S Y N D R O M E

Sleep Paralysis (SP) is a common medical condition and usually tagged nowdays as a Sleeping Disorder.
The symptoms can sometimes include complete to partial paralysis of arms, legs and upper torso, a tight or heavy pressure on your chest sometimes with a choking sensation and almost always experienced as you are about to fall into sleep or just come out of sleep.
The most remarkable symptoms of SP are the accompanying audio and/or visual hallucinations often causing extreme terror and panic in it's sufferers, who more often than not mistakenly believe they are being visited by aliens, malevolent beings and other evil presences.

haha why didnt u just RC? then you woulda known right away if u were dreaming, also woulda gained lucidity, and wouldve been able to change the dream so u werent paralyzed i thought youve done this before LOLZ this tears holes in your story of being a dream master, because if you were in a dream and were truly experienced at LD'ing, you would have had enough control over it to bend it to your will, as well as the complete loss of all fear that flows in with lucidity. :skepticism:....

I am aware of what people refer to as the "old hag" syndrome. However, I was offering you an alternative point of view for you to consider. My current view is that the "old hag" syndrome exists, but one must be able to differentiate it from other cases, such as genuine attacks from malevolent entities.

For myself, I sort of experienced the "old hag" syndrome once, but it wasn&#39;t an unpleasant experience as I felt I was being hugged by my soft toy Hamtaro (which exists in the waking world, and I was holding on to it while I was going to sleep at that time).

Since when does being paralyzed stop you from thinking?

If your truely this "master" of LD, you could&#39;ve went lucid (just by Reality Checking... which is something you seriously need), then taken control of the dream and un-paralyzed yourself. I find it weird how I, someone new to lucid dreaming, is spelling this out for a so called "master."

Also, judging by: your very limited vocabularly, your need to swear at everyone and insult everyone(also with a very limited vocabulary), your typing skills that look like that of a 4 year old with arthritis, and you thinking copying and pasting something someone else wrote is "Your research," I strongly doubt that you are +10 years into lucid dreaming, as your hardly passing yourself off as +10 years old.

stop using the word hate and its variants, hate, hater and hating are no longer acceptable for you, OK. they are now out of bounds, as in

also sleep paralysis does not stop one from reality checking. you said in your post you saw a clock. double checking the clock is a method of reality checking. if there was any text you could double check that. or lets say there wasnt a clock or text, you could have just looked for your nose. if it isnt there, your dreaming. another fantastic reality check. im sure there are tons more you could have done besides the standard nose pinching.
these jokes in no way reflect the opinion of mountain or his affiliates and subsidiary corporations, and as such he is immune from all whining, bitching, complaining, lecturing, the pointing out of ignorance, awareness raising, lawsuits etc. if you would like mountain to stop making racist jokes, he in turn would like you to go f*ck yourself</span>.

Come on, guys. Try to be a little more civil when you&#39;re responding instead of just cursing or ragging on someone. And that&#39;s meant for more than one person or this thread will be locked. Chill.... please.

As for what you experienced, Dream Catcher, it does sound like "old hag." While it may be scary (though I haven&#39;t experienced it, personally), I would advise that if you feel yourself in sleep paralysis again just take some deep breaths and remind yourself that you&#39;re just sleeping or close to sleep and you just need to wake up. Just breathe and relax. You could also imagine that whatever is coming towards you is a good person or something. I don&#39;t know how well that would work, but it&#39;s worth a shot.

And sleep paralysis isn&#39;t a disorder. It happens (or should happen) to everyone when they sleep so that you don&#39;t act out what you&#39;re dreaming. It becomes a problem if you don&#39;t go into SP or if you&#39;re consistently having trouble waking up in SP.

No one is going to want to listen to you anymore if you yell and lose control. Take it easy, no one&#39;s trying to impress anyone here, just share ideas.

I think it&#39;s possibly more appropriate to just admit you are not a master and ease tensions which you may have previously created. Come clean with your fellows. Defending the notion simply drags on the inevitable and obvoiously hasn&#39;t helped the situation. Sorry to upset you, but it&#39;s just common sense.

Here is something I&#39;m curious about, is SP only partial in a dream? What causes running/punching to be so hard to do in dreams, while other things are carried out effortlessly?

The other day I awoke from a dream while talking on a cell phone, and my hand was up to my ear like I was holding one. I&#39;m curious as to why this occurrs. Was I kicking in reality too as in the dream? Or was this just due to the dream ending?

Sorry to ask this here, just didn&#39;t see a much better place without starting a new thread.
