OK this is driving me crazy, for the past few nights I have been trying to relax by breathing in and out and counting my breathes. Well everytime I start doing this then my lips get dry, and so does my mouth!

Any solutions on top of actually drinking the right ammounts of water everyday?

Favorite lipgloss? Something?

It's so hard to concentrate when you feel like licking your lips, and whenever I started to finally relax and not focus on my lips, then I would have to lick them because they were so dry, and my whole concentration would die because I was focusing on my lips and dry mouth!

Thank you,
Ezekiel

Just put on some chapstick before bed - I like the Chapstick Overnight Lip Treatment, my lips never get dry with it on.

you may think that it is a physiological problem but try taking your mind off of it, and just breathe deep and slow, only concentrate on breathing, completely put your lips and mouth out of you mind. Just give it a shot.

Maybe it's both. I will try to find some chapstick, and I will only focus on my breathing...

Do you have any problems with sleeping with pets/spouses? Does their breathing bother you? or when they move at night?

I find it more relaxing to hear deep rhythmic breathing from my husband and the cats ~ as long as they're not snoring!

My lips get dry easily, also. It's mainly because I am a compulsive chapstick user. I have been using chapstick since I was about thirteen, and I use it everyday, at least once every thirty minutes, if not less. Anyway, I have to use it, or I would never get to sleep or be able to concentrate on LD attempts.

its crazy how people can get addicted to it. I almost got addicted once, but them i used coconut oil on my lips at night for about a week, and they were fine, and i rarely use chapstic now.

Yeah, I've had the same problem, and when I'm doing WILD or just concentrating, chapstick is the way to go!

Since the topic IS titled "lips/mouth problems" I have a question for the opposite problem. When I'm trying to concentrate or especially WILD, is it OK to swallow any of the saliva that accumulates in the back of the throat? I figured swallowing is as natural a reflex as breathing.

haha, we're both online cachero! yay! =P

Yeah, I have read about people getting addicted to chapstick. I think it would be best if you stayed off of it for a few nights. People that use eye drops all of the time eventually have dry eyes because of it.

Edit: I think that swallowing would be easy to ignore? Easier anyway? Dry lips can cause pain and irritation. Can't you just swallow and get right back into it? Would the saliva keep coming back? Maybe inbetween breathes?

Dry lips and dry mouth are repetitive in the sense that it will keep coming back because the factor is air. Saliva depends doesn't it ? Are you trying to WILD with cheeseburgers? hmmm =P

yeah, if your having chapped lips, go to the store and buy coconut oil, it works for real. It also CURES athletes foot, helps with acne, and its amazing for your stomach.

I notice when i swallow when i'm in deep concentration, i kind of lose concentration so i'm having the same problem

Maybe the saliva is because your mouth isn't clean enough? Try mouth wash or brush your teeth before it? maybe that would work?

Yeah, but your body naturally produces saliva, so when you don't swallow for a while your glands are going to secrete alot, not matter if you mouth is clean or not. But hey, i say give it a shot, it may work for you.

For the swallowing thing, what I do (though I've never successfully WILDed)
and what others say to do, is just don't worry about it. Swallow and go on;
same with moving position. Seems that getting distracted by these things
is worse that losing concentration and being right back on track. - eggbert

I can get right back to concentrating when I'm WILDing, but will that split-second of moving one's body ruin the WILD? Maybe I'm being too picky, but practicing right makes perfect, I guess...

and WHO DOESN'T dream of teh cheeseburgers?!?

I have that problem as well as sometimes my mouth may just start to collect a lot of saliva in it forcing me to swallow it.
Wait!! .......Am I dreaming right now?

another thing....if you smoke marijuana it causes dry mouth, so if your doing that, that could very well have an effect. It also messes up my dream recall, and concious abilities. "drugs are bad, drugs are bad mkay"

Saliva seems like a pretty common problem... Maybe we should make a new sticky : How do you deal with dry lips and swallowing? or atleast a poll or something?

Why don't you guys just breathe deeply through your nose? And what the hell is chapstick, I'm guessing a lipstick or cream of some kind?

=P It's harder to breathe through your nose? I found I couldn't relax while focusing on breathing through my nose and my nose was a plugged a little. Your mouth is never plugged, well, sorta haha.

Chapstick is a balm, usually medicated, that you put on your lips to keep them from drying out.

http://www.chapstick.com/

ChapStick is the brand name adopted in the United States and United Kingdom by Wyeth Consumer Healthcare for its range of lip balms produced to be used on chapped lips. Due to ChapStick's popularity, the term has become a genericized trademark, used to refer to any lip balm contained in a lipstick-style tube and applied in the same manner as lipstick; however, the term is still a registered trademark, with rights exclusively owned by Wyeth. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chapstick [/b]
Where are you from that you don't know what chapstick is =P

Are the strips reuseable? 30 strips for $8.99 at one site. plus shipping
Overnight Chapstick + Water = $3.49 plus shipping. = let's say 30 applications? maybe 40...

I think it's cheaper to drink better, take care of your lips more, then to open your nose ?
