Ok here's the thing, I'm writing a paper on Lucid Dreaming and I need your help! No I am not going to ask you to write it for me! I ask of you to mention topics that you think should be in there. (Should I for example mention that you can lower your brainwaves using soundwaves and stuff like that.) It has to be between 2000 and 2500 words, that's pretty long for me (I basically suck at writing) and I can therefore mention quite a few things!
So please, could you mention the things you think are important (even if they're the basics of the basic)?
If you have any questions, just let me know!
      Thanks

Well, you'll need the basic facts about dreaming, such as when it happens, possible reasons why we find it so hard to realise we're dreaming, and such. When moving onto the lucid dreaming part, you'll definately want to talk a lot about techniques and reality checks, listing and describing atleast four or five. Also include all the wonderful uses lucid dreams can have, etc. ^_^ I guess the Wikipedia entry for Lucid dreaming would make a nice template for it aswell

Yeah, and mention the different methods one would use to attain a lucid state of dreaming. As in DILD, WILD, etc. Also, you might want to mention Stephen LaBerge and EWOLD

Methods(WILD, DILD ect.), Tell-tale signs(Sleep Paralysis, Hypnotic Imagery ect.), REM sleep, Dreaming and the actual meaning of lucidity of course. Dream Recall, ect. A lot can be easily found on this forum and our front page

The biggest thing that will help you write the paper is having a point you are trying to make. If you are not trying to make any point, you'll end up with just a bunch of stuff about lucid dreaming, and it will be boring for you and boring for others. So, do you have a point in mind? It could be something like, "Lucid dreaming is not the paranormal stuff most people think of when they hear the term. It is something everyone can do." That would give you a reason to talk about techniques and quote some people's experiences. It could be "Lucid dreaming tends to make people more open-minded." Any opinion, any assertion about lucid dreaming, will give a direction and focus to your paper. Good luck!
The new evolutionary paradigm will give us the human traits of truth, of loyalty, of justice, of freedom. These will be the manifestations of the new evolution. And that is what we would hope to see from this. That would be nice.

      Ok, nice!
And yes, I need an hypthesis that I will have to try and prove and I was indeed thinking about something like JaphyR said, it is not paranornal and can be learned by everyone.
I can definitely start writing now. thanks!

There are actually many different articles written about the science of Lucid Dreaming, and how it works. They shouldnt be too hard to find.

      Good luck on your paper!

I would go to the tutorials section, and cover the major techniques there (MILD, WILD, HILD, WBTB, DILD), do a section about dramsigns, reality checks. Definitely have an overview of dreaming in general, and explain the difference between LDing and Dream Control, and make sure to mention the fact that absolutely anything is possible, its only limited by your imaginations.

Please PM it to me, I would love to read it. If you haven't handed it in yet, maybe I could give some insights.

At least let us know your grade.

      Hope for an A

Haha, no I had to hand it in thursday midnight... So we'll see... But it's really crappy, I warn you! But I'll let you know my grade as soon as I get it, I don't mind! I'm not taking any other psychology courses anyway, way to social sciency! I'm a hardcore science woman! don't expect me to write stupid papers!
At least I got to pick the topic
I'll see if there's a way I can post it with a link...
Ok, add it as an attachment..
There's a lot of bull written about me, haha.
I also got a lot of info from here, but I cannot reference websites so I found some books that pretty much say the same. I wasn't able to get one of laberge's books though...
There was a lot more I wanted to tell, but I already passed the word limit (never thought that would happen&#33
I have to give a presentation, so all the criticism that you have is welcome, then I'm already very prepared!
      enjoy the reading

It looked like a pretty good paper to me, should be an A.

I'm suprised that you were not allowed to list websites as references. It has become common practice and there is even an official form in the writers handbook for them. Oh well, such is life.

When will you get it back?

I haven't read the whole thing, but from what I have read it seems quite good and with accurate information. I think is deseves a B+ to A easily. Get back when you've been graded. As for presenting, don't ask me for help, I hate presentations . Anyways, that really is weird that they wouldn't let you use websites. Websites often have by far the best information.

      wow, you guys are positive!
well, the thing is, we have an entire database of ALL journals and their articles (gazillion articles) and we have a very good library here, unless you need lucid dreaming books, but hey..
and some instructors here allow websites since they realise some are very good, but other instructors (like my psychology instructor) prefers just articles and books. oh well, so be it!
I have no idea when I will get my grade, I hope next week thursday.
And I love presentations Those I can do very well! haha

Lucky you. I can present well enough, but I get stage fright, and hate being in front of everyone talking, as I always feel stupid (though I end up with an A ) My technique for presenting is talk to the back wall of the room, as then you talk loud enough, but you don't really notice all the people so much. Anyways, if that's what you're good at, I really respect you for it, because it isn't my thing, and I find it really challenging. Good luck, and hope your grade next thursday (or whenever) will be pleasing. Have fun.

Also, I am wondering, what kind of class is this exactly, and how do you think they'll respond to the concept of Lucid Dreaming? Are they the "woah, cool" type, or the "Is that some kind of acid?" type?

I used to hate presenting, but at my university we have to do it many many times, so you kinda get over it. You're lucky that you at least get a high grade while you have stage fright; that's really good!
And my class, well I don't know, I know there are some people who think it's cool, but I think there will be quite a few thinking I must be nuts or something. I also know that one of my instructors (yeah, we have two... for one course..) thinks it's a bunch of, well, crap, and the other one finds it interesting, so I hope I get to present when the 'other one' is there!

It's mainly because I have decent presentation skills, and am good at preparing good information, and actually didn't have stage fright until sixth grade when this kid who I was friends with started making fun of everything I did, and making me feel stupid because I would get really mad. He basically ruined my self-esteem, though it is better now that I don't have to deal with him (he isn't in anything with me), so I am fine socially. Ironically, no one likes this kid now.

Anyways, hopefully you'll get the nice proffessor, and if not, you'll just have to convince him/her that it isn't a bunch of bs, and is a real, possible thing.
