      lucid dream suicide experiments

The concept of a lucid dream suicide occurred to me tonight. Has anyone ever experienced this? Any speculation on the meaning, significance or ramifications of performing this? Has anyone tried this or is anyone willing to explore this territory? The only model I can think of for this is Bill Murray's suicides in Groundhog Day, ultimately resulting in a happy ending. It's just a movie though. What do you think?

hrmmm... I would tread lightly, granted my sense of self preservation is minimal at best... or Im just dumb... but I have never intentinaly tried to kill myself here Ive come close on accidedt =D but I have given my life in the dreaming for the benefit of others.

What I experienced was weird, I am not sure how to put words to it...The best I could say is I experienced alot of emotions and sensations at once.
      Euphoric comes to mind.

In my experience I do feel pain, so getting killed or killing myself isint all that high on my to do list, I try to avoid death these days =)
Also.. I would fear there might be a chance you didnt wake up, the body is nothing without the mind, if you truely beleive you die and your spirit leaves, then you might be SOL =/ Please be careful if you intend to experiment in this realm. I know alot of people say yeah its just in your head, but some of us beleive otherwise.

I do not know enough information to truely know, so I just say be careful =)

Strangely enough, I dont want to try anything like that.

      Because :
      a) I dont want to

      B) your mind may simulate hell and loop it for a long time (like extending time)

      c) Your mind may get pissed at you and will not allow you to become lucid
      anymore.

      d) and tons of other complications....

I'm sure it couldn't hurt anything, it's just your friggin brain spittin images out. Next time I'm lucid I'll free fall from the o-zone layer and let you know how it goes after I hit the ground.

I don't think thats even possible. If you kill yourself in your dream wouldn't you automatically wake up? And what fun is that. Then you have to try to get into a Lucid Dream all over again.

Nope, that's just not appealing to me! But I agree with Seri, please be careful!

Oddly enough, in my last (and only second planned LD) I decided to purposely miss a turn in the road and plow into a huge snowbank. It just instantly disappeared on contact. Given this wasn't necessarily a suicide attempt but i thought I'de offer my personal feedback anyhow.

I would not either..besides from it hurting very much, I dont even see a reason..I have no need to harm myself, besides, like seri and others I see the dream world(astral plane) as real, so killing myself isnt exactly the most fun thing to do! =P

If you do try it, atleast do something fun. Like jumping off a huge building or something, that would be fun. Getting shot in the face with a shotgun though, that doesn't sound so fun.

i have but it was a funny situation. i was falling off this giant cliff and i gained lucidity half way down... i hit and there was no pain, no special sensation. my perspective just zoomed out from the body and i was stuck in this forest as a ghost... it was weird. i lost all my usual abilities to change my surroundings and body too. i had to wake myself up it was so boring.

and yes... BE CAREFUL! i had a non-lucid dream where i was looking for a way to kill myself... well i woke up and went through my usual morning routine... i was in the shower contemplating how i should 'off' myself. i was thinking of taking all these tylenol then cutting my wrists... then it hit me... i wasn't in the dream anymore... seriously... be careful.

If i have no desire to kill myself in the waking world... why would I want to do it in my dreams! I have died a few times in my dreams but it is not something i would try to do. Like a few have said before... be careful! If you are considering killing yourself in your dream world... I would say look closely at weather or not you would do it in the waking world...

adidas - i know this thought was only brought on by a dream but I just had to say somethin.... Cutting your wrists might do the trick but an overdose on Tylenol will only fu*k up your liver and it is a long painful death if you die at all! I’ve seen the affect and it is not pretty! I know this may sound sick but Tylenol is not a good way to off yourself.... not sayin that you would.... Anyway. Sorry if i offended anyone by this little statement! Didn't mean to!

      What a morbid subject....

Yeah Alarust is right and I think this subject should be completely deleted from the forum. It's really not positive and if people are thinking we are cults, just wait till someone comes in and stumbles on this thread and get a wiff of its contents.

I vote to have it removed. What do you think Seeker?

wait wait wait... this isn't advocating killing yourself. yes it's a taboo subject but we're discussing it civilly, as a dream world experiment... nothing beyond dreaming... hence the 'be careful'

and alaurast, tylenol thins the blood and makes it drain faster. i wanted to bring this subject up in philosophy but i really didn't want to delve into the afterlife theories so i didn't post. i'm confident that this forum could handle the subject... i just didn't want to start a religion thread.

suicide is a permanent answer for a temporary problem...

Its cool whatever you guys like to do, I just get an uneasy feeling about that entire concept. But you're right addias we can handle this, no problem. Well I can't I guess it's just in relation to some previous issues I had earlier in life that involved a close friend. But enough of that. Its cool with me.

      nah.
cutting your wrists wont kill you, unless you:
      a. cut insanely deep
      b. your blood doesn't clot.

      otherwise it's just relief....
      anyhoo.
if i could get lucid i'd try suicide.
but at the time i'm still working on getting my dream recall back up to working order.
      err.

Normally when I die in a dream, I just wake up, but not always. In a dream I had around a week ago, I was being chased by a whole lot of zombies. It was non lucid, and I was really scared of being caught by them and eaten. I got cornered by them, so I climbed up onto a street lamp and jumped off face first into the pavement...........and turned into a zombie. It wasn't so bad, it was just like being a regular human.

one of my friends hung himself with a belt...cmon, i mean, theres like at least 50 better was to go than that...drowning is supposedly very peaceful right before you die, after your lungs fill up with water, cause your body stops fighting back, and you kinda accept it...in my dreams, however, i dont do it unless i dont know im dreaming and dont have control, like my subconcious is forcing me to, and usually when that heppens, its really violent or blood, like one time i shot myself in the face with a harpoon gun...another time i jumped under a semi's back wheels as it started to move...stuff like that...it totally sucks

I think you would wake yourself up 100% of the time if you deliberately, "pulled the trigger", in a dream. Say, gun in mouth etc. However, you may dream through some sort of accidental death I believe, like falling...but I still think that would wake you up a huge percentage of the time.

Boy! What a cheery topic. Sure, I'll kill my self in a dream, but not until I have done 100 different kinds of reality tests!

I'm not going to try it, but I don't even think it would work for me unless I really really wanted it to. For example I jumped through a closed window in a lucid I had last night but I wasn't hurt in any way. I'd have to do something and then really believe I was going to die. Even then I'd be limited to my preconceptions of an afterlife or I'd wake up. Like Switch said, what fun would that be?
Tonight's the night. And it's going to happen again, and again. It has to happen.

I was intrigued by the experience someone mentioned of dying and becoming a ghost in a forest. It seems like an experience like that could be very insightful. My speculation was that one could experience after-death states on lucid dreams, or more accurately, the imagination's view on it. Could an oneironaut who practiced killing himself on a daily basis in his dreams gain some unusual insights into the world, himself, or his dreams?

Personally I have tried to commit suicide (during an intense mushroom trip), and so the topic has a personal dimension for me.

I've talked to someone who purposely died in an LD. They said they simply ceased to exist. They just weren't there - the feeling of total lack of feeling was amazing. It sounds extremely fascinating.
