sound in dreams, both lucid and not...

It seems to me that when I dream, I don't hear sound as much as feel it. I have read probably thousands of books in my life and wonder if this has anything to do with it. I dream every single night, and can remember in extreme detail almost every one. Lucid dreams come much rarer yet all of my dreams border on the edge between "normal dreams" and lucid. I am almost always aware that I am dreaming yet not able to take control and become fully lucid. When you read a book or text of any kind, like what I am writing right now for example, you don't physically hear my words as much as think them aloud in your head, does that make sense? So my dreams I feel as if I am not really hearing anything as much as "reading" what is being said. Background noise and music are extremely rare in my dreams for some reason, the rest of the dreamtime is very graphic, detailed, clear crisp and colorful, yet I don't seem to remember the sound portion at all. Maybe it is there and I am just not tuned in on it...

let me know about your dreams and the sound quotient in them, very interested. having been an intrepid and daring dreamer for most of my life it is nice to have stumbled upon a haven of lucidity such as this site. I extend greetings and look forward to much conversation and discussion.

I hear sounds for sure. I practiced dream recall this morning, and I had very audible conversations and I recall the entire experience as being as vivid as reality. I remember that the environment had sounds, I actually focused on more minor details of the place, and it had it's own look, sound, feel.... It was an arcade, so you can imagine all the noises, but they were there. But I do believe that at other parts of the dream, other than spoken dialog, the enviroment was not something I remember or was focused on during the dream. I suppose being lucid would probably give me better memories of everything I experienced.

It's just that as my memory fades of the dream, so do a lot of the details and vividness of them. So, you probably do something like forget the sound first. Make sense?

The vividness of dreams fade very fast. Moreso than memories you create when awake. I'm sure if you go lucid, you will notice everything, and probably remember it too.

Of course, you're right in the sense that it is all in your head, but dreams are so immersive, you don't know that when you're dreaming. You accept anything unless something triggers lucidity.

Although sounds play an occasional part in my dreams, it seems to be the least active of the senses. It surprises me because I'm a musician and have always been involved with music and sound.
When I do experience sound it's very memorable. A little over a month ago, I played the guitar for the first time in an LD, and I could here the guitar and the music I was playing along with...it was incredible!
When I woke up, I went and recorded the riff I was playing in the LD into
my Sonar software, and hope to develope it into a song soon.

Maybe it's just natural that vision is a more, what's the word?, sophisticated, important, sense than hearing, and the mind gives it more emphasis in dreaming.

usually, the only time i hear sound is when someone is trying to wake me up or my alarm goes off, (i'm still dreaming... but i can hear it). I did hear a song in my dream once without listening to music the night before, and when i woke up it was about 3:00a, so i don't think it was my alarm.

People's speech is usually telepathic, but all other sounds exist as normal in my dream.
Tonight I found myself in a nightclub and heard most amazing music I've ever heard. That was awesome. And it was true sound

In my Dreams sound and every other sense is heightened I can hear things far away as if it were right next to me. Sometimes it gets annoying when so many voices are going all at once, but I usually just yell out SILENCE!! when that happen and then the vocal level is decreased. Sounds like you are Low-level Lucid capable.

Most likely it will *try* to play it, but it depends on how good you know this song.

Once I asked a girl in a LD to tell me "about herself". What I got was a bunch of nonsense and BS.

The sound came to me in reply to my post!

Well, after posting that last night I dreamed a most incredible long, epic dream which concluded with me riding on a bus in the back, with three girls surrounding me on the seat, me sitting cross legged on the floor. They all began to sing to me, a beautiful song in full and vibrant surround sound. It was so wonderful that I woke up singing it and it gave me a large amount of happiness thru the day. The voices were so clean and the song so harmonic, I was in sound bliss!

Here is what they sang to me,

"All of this might go away,
but it will be better someday,
      it will get better today,
      always.

      You have to trust,
      You have to trust,
      You have to trust!"

      much love and vibrational energy,

my message was far from nasty and was simply a clarification of my feelings towards being labeled and judged in a supposed "supportive" forum. Both you and Switch have responded to my open communication with aggressive private mails and words echoing with negative vibrations. I don't know why people can't simply talk about things on this forum without being ganged up on by those people whose post rate have given them a title of "lucid capability". I would appreciate it if in the future instead of responding so intensely and ineffectively, we could come to a resolution with love instead of animosity.

      Love is the way,
