Thread: Falling In Love With A Dc?

Wow. I am so gonna write a novel about this. A little Romeo and Juliet perhaps? Two people who can't be together in waking life because one of them doesn't even exist? That's alot to think about. I can really see where you are coming from though; I had a DC (who is no one I even know IRL) who I had a crush on. This is strange stuff.

A bit mad but: The only conclusion I can reach with DCs (...they're not real people...) is that they are a 'black box', a subdivision created in your mind. A process. Say you have a lucid dream where you are stuck in a lift with Bob and Ben. The larger part of the mind would be working with you; a lucid self has at some point more or less the same cognitive abilities as the waking self. There would be an subprocess for the dreamworld simulation; the lift. Now Bob and Ben are also their own processes; there is a partition (most likely virtual) of the mind working with Bob. It's controlling his stimulus and responses. It's no doubt unlike that of a human; it's probably screwed and meshed in with the rest of the dream. But more importantly, it's completely invisible to the self; you get responses, but his inner workings is hidden.

Now if you define 'yourself' as the collection of cognitive processes you are aware and are in control of, Bob and his friend are by definition not you. So, if the confinement of the lift was enough stress for you to 'experiment', you wouldn't be making love to yourself, but someone else. Not a human. Certainly not a real one at least. But not you.
