My attempts to use FILD started yesterday. I tried the techique today during my nap (a weekend indulgence) and I actually LD'd for a brief moment. I saw a washer with a bottle of Mr. Clean on it and thought it was weird because I use all-natural/home-made cleaners. I thought, "Oh, I must be dreaming."

Unfortunately, I woke up immediately after that What a strange way to begin...something so pedestrian as Mr. Clean lol! I thought if I LD'd, it be some kind of dramatic dream event with a lot of emotional energy. Hopefully this is an auspicious beginning, but you guys would know better than me.

So did you any of you start out small, too?

I doubt using the FILD method would get you a very long or vivid LD anywho, but I'm sure most first LDs are short, unless you are prepared for whats to come and you've done a lot of studying up on staying lucid.

      :bravo: Whatever works!

FILD gave me one great long lucid, and one short one. Then it never worked again. I have to constantly switch my techniques to keep them working. My LD's have been variable, short and long, more or less control, always just enough to keep me interested. If you keep at it, you will probably have better and longer ones at some point.

Thanks for the input and advice, Moonbeam. This was probably my third LD ever, so I'm not a natural at it. Just getting lucid at all was exciting.

The possibility of actually inducing LDs is so interesting! It makes sense that changing things up from time to time would be helpful, like changing your exercise routine.

Do a fair number of LDers switch methods from time to time? I've been reading Lars' LD FAQs and it looks like there are several methods. Most of them boggle my mind lol

I think we all start out pretty small when it comes to lucid dreaming. My first few were on the order of seconds long, and my lucidity came randomly. Then, when I had a slightly longer LD, it was triggered when I realized that there was absolutely no reason to be standing in the garden in the middle of the night wearing my normal clothes, when I should be in bed in my pyjamas.

Like almost anything worth doing, lucid dreaming takes effort. Keep working at it, and you'll eventually be rewarded with longer dreams that occur more often. Reading about techniques is a great way to get ideas, but practice is essential.

Now, I should just take my own advice...

      Happy Dreaming!
Well life is short, so love the one ya' got, 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot.

Um, yeah, I kinda do. I used to mainly WILD and DILD, but now I've started experimenting with MILDs.

As for confusing acronymns, the only ones you REALLY need to know are DILD, WILD, and MILD (which is a subtype of DILD). Anything else tends to be a variation of one of those three, in my opinion.

Actually, in my first LD I did the exact opposite: I started out big, and it was really dumb.

I became lucid, LD, and decided "Woo, I'm gonna fly" So, I flew, and because I hadn't bothered to stabilise the dream or increase vividity (big mistake) I ended up going into a really vague flying-dream that got kind of boring, because of how unvivid and vague it was. So yeah. The moral of the story is, I guess, don't get too excited, and don't rush things too fast. Try to cement your control and vividity, lucidity.
