Maybe I've simply never paid attention, but I've only experienced SP when I'm trying to wake up... never while falling asleep. Also, if I'm in a LD, I can be aware of my physical surroundings and I'm not having SP.... like one night recently I knew that my throat was dry and I wanted a drink, but I didn't want to wake up from the LD. Eventually it was making me crazy so I thought (stupidly) that maybe I could reach my water bottle and drink and stay asleep, and of course I woke right up from moving. Is this normal? Or am I misunderstanding SP?

Most people will never experience SP while going to sleep. Since when you fall asleep you gradually move to deeper and deeper levels of sleep, and you don't enter SP until REM, usually after progressing through all of the sleep phases. Upon waking, it's possible to be instantly awakened from REM, and occasionally SP doesn't shut off properly, so you're still paralyzed after waking for a short while.
WILDing induces SP when going to sleep by jumping straight into an REM cycle, skipping other levels of sleep that you normally progress through.
As for how you broke SP while dreaming, there's a few possibilities. You could have just forced your way through SP, or you could have already been slipping out of an REM cycle and SP had been loosened already.

Tsen makes a very good point. I believe that's what happened also. Perhaps right before you had awaken from the LD you could've just broken SP thus coming out of your REM cycle with none at all. I never had SP upon waking up from a dream. My SP occurs right before I enter REM. You know you could've probably quinched your thirst in the Lucid Dream also. It works drink water in the dream and your mind will duplicate the feeling of refreshness, of course you will still be thristy when you awaken, but give it a try next time.

The only times I've encountered SP (when not trying to WILD) is when I have woken up improperly from an LD. That being said, when I wake up into SP, is it possible to go back into an LD?

Yes, at least I'm pretty sure you can.
Should be like WILD'ing, but jumping in halfway through.
No guaruntees it will be easy, though--you might have difficulty staying calm enough to relax into the dream if you suddenly awaken.

This makes sense to me. Thank you. I hadn't thought of that.

That's interesting. I forget about those types of things when I'm LD. I need to think about this more. Very clever.
