Reading

I read a lot. It gets to the point that after five minutes I no longer see the words. I've been told this is far above-average reading, especailly for my age. [15] How many others on this site read avidly? Just post here.

No longer see the words? You mean just see what they're saying without consciously reading them? Wish I could do that. I used to read quite a lot, but now I've slowed down a bit due to longer school and more homework. But that sounds really cool!

That's how I've always read. Once every few minutes I'll snap back to reality and see the words for a while, but most of the time I'm there inside the book.

But that sounds really cool! [/b] Yeah. It's cool, I never really thought much about it untill now. I don't even "see" most of the book. It's kind of like HI. I get a series of images, feelings, and sounds, and they all connect to send through the story. That's how I've always read. That's pretty amazing, you have quite a gift there, one I envy (though it must give you a headache when you read boring stuff, like algebra textbooks )

Wow, I didn't know not everyone could read like that. I thought everyone could read like this... I guess this is why most of my friends don't read...

I read all the time too, It's been a big part of my life pretty much since I first learned how. It's to the point where I've actually gotten in trouble at school for reading. I think I have a similar way of reading to Adanac and ViSions. I'm always aware of the words on the page, but my mind processes them into senses and ideas automatically, so that the text just sort of fades into the background and I can focus on the story.

I have also been an avid reader since elementary school (5-6 years ago), and I can somewhat understand the phenomenon of "words disappearing"... though, I find this in no way comparable to Lucid Dreams. That's how I'd describe it. I don't really "see", or "hear" the events going on, as I would in a Lucid Dream. I don't create visualizations of the characters I read about - at the end of a book I couldn't draw you a picture of the main character, but after seeing a dream character, I probably could. However, I don't feel this detracts from my experience. I'd rather be a quiet observer in most stories than actually participate. Might be kind of neat, I suppose, for those who do visualize the story.

Yes, I read like that. And I can understand what you mean about it seeming like lucid dreaming; it's almost like you aren't there - it's an alternate reality. But yeah, reading is the best.

Its wrong to say that its anything like dreaming... All it is, is visualization. You get a mental image in your head while another part is reading the script... Good authors understand how to make you visualization what they want... that makes for a pleasant reading experience.

I read fast and I mean fast (DaVinci Code in 9 hours) but i've never experianced subconsciously reading and imagining the words/story simultaniously. that seems impressive. The closest thing i can think I've had to that is the words blurring and Me losing my spot and not taking in any information.
