here's my deal. i LOVE LD'ing, obviously. i like reading about it, thinking about it, and talking (typing) about it with all of you. the problem is, you all are the ONLY people that i can talk to about it! whenever i tell someone about LD'ing, they sometimes seem interested, but i can't seem to find people that want to LEARN how to do it. to me, it's something that humans are MEANT to do (since it's a "gift" from whoever created life) but people seldom do, partially because of the fast-paced world we live in. does anyone else feel this same frustration? i'm getting to the point that when someone catches me doing a RC or reading a LD book and they ask me about it, i'm just going to start going, "yeah it's just a book about dreaming". and leave it at that. to me, i don't understand WHY you wouldn't want to at least have ONE LD... at LEAST so you know what it is! it just seems so closed-minded to me.

Yea I know what you mean. I mean, I've told a lot of people about lucid dreaming, but so far nobody except my younger brother has even attempted it (he did have a few LD's, but quit after that). I mean...lucid dreaming is probably the most amazing thing I've ever heard of....yet people just go "oh, wow, that's cool" and leave it at that. IT MAKES ME WANNA PUNCH THEM IN THE FACE, as you said heheheh.

I have the same problem (though not as bad, I have one or two friends I can talk about LDing with and one of them actually signed up to this site). I, too, don't understand why anyone wouldn't want to learn to LD. I mean, you can do anything you want in an LD. Don't people want to do anything? Sheesh. I'm completely baffled as to why this forum doesn't have millions of members. Then again, I'm completely baffled as to why people would buy a Britney Spears album, or why people think it's strange that I eat salsa with any kind of chips, not just tortilla chips, or why anyone would use Internet Explorer. Maybe I am just very easily baffled. Baffleable, if I may, and if you will. And I think you will. Baffle. Heh.

This is the only place I can talk about LDing too. My closest aquaintences irl know I'm into lucid dreaming but they don't particularly care for it. Hell, some even equate it to occult or witch craft and think i'm odd for even attempting it. I dont go out of my way anymore to mention it. They know about LDs and if they suddenly become interested and want to talk about it they know where to find me.

I have one friend who is slightly interested in it, he hopes to have a lucid dream someday, but does not pursue it. He anjoys hearing my storied though when I have a lucid, or learn something cool.

Could it be that most of us "accidentally" stumbled on LDing? I know I did. I didn't even know what I was doing the first time. But I gained "conciousness" in a dream once and it was the most awesome experience I had. And I wanted more. The Interweb (lol) was barely even around then. There was usenet, which is the most we computer geeks had... I searched it and found the term Lucid Dreaming. Joined the NG and learned a lot. Oh, and Bullietin Boards.. lol! Who remembers those? There was one with a lucid dreaming section on it.

You know people in real life kind of remind me of dream characters. Like in a Lucid Dream you tell a dream character that they are a part of your dream and they either look confused, or just flat out disregard what you just told them as if you never said it. This is how I feel people are in real life when I tell them about Lucid Dreaming. Yes it can get frustrating with friends but I learned a long time ago not to even share it with them. For those who are really and truely interested they will find their way to it, for those who could care less will not even waste time looking for it let alone talk about it.

My mom, says that she can't remember her dreams and that it's not good to try because you don't get proper rest if you try to be "awake when asleep" it's a little frustrating. I don't have a lot of problems with my friends though, they like to hear about what role they play in my dreams from time to time. A lot of them find it hilarious because it sounds like I've been takin some kind of drug. I pride myself on my drugless trips.

My wife is similar. She always says when she's dreaming, she forces herself awake because she thinks dreaming (not LDing) she isn't getting rest. I think that what makes her think that is waking up continuosly from the most important stage of sleep! It's like taking a starving child and putting a powdered donut to his lips, letting him taste the sugar, then pulling it away, over and over. It's only going to make him more hungry. And my wife is always tired. I asked her "so, when you're dreaming, you realize it pretty quick and wake yourself, right?" She said "yep." I told her "you have a gift if you really are realizing you're dreaming that easy. " I asked her to try and LD once. I said "before you wake yourself, fly, shoot laserbeams from your hands, or will Parker Stephenson off of your 1970s t-shirt and have sex with him..." She blushed and didn't say she wouldn't try, but hasn't yet. She does seem interested in my dreams, lucid or not, so I think there is some curiosity. When we first started dating 10+ years ago is when I was really into LDing at first. I told her everything, so she's not unfamiliar with the subject. Probably just thinks its "weird".

My mom's an insulin dependent diabetic and I thought that maybe the drugs and stuff were messing with her dream recall (she claims she never dreams, "too tired to have any" she says. I say different but she says my sources are bull *sigh*), but it sounds like your wife could be a very capable LDer if she wanted to. I can understand my mom but it's difficult to figure out why someone wouldn't want to dream...hmmm. what's cool is since I started going all out on this lucidity stuff, my dad has been havin non-lucids but really cool ones. He's a history lover and last night he had a dream that stonewall jackson hadn't died and that he'd pressed the union forces at the beginning of gettysburg and took high ground. He defeated the army there and forced them back to defend washington. Grant and the army of the potomac then abandoned Vicksburg and went to relieve the siege on washington. He didn't find out if the south won the civil war in that scenario but we were both really curious about it.

Honestly I wouldn't recommend talking about lucid dreaming to your friends unless they are really open minded. Most people tend to think thats it this new age crap just because a majority of people don't/can't do it. This is the only place I talk about lucid dreaming because every one else has the same interests in it as well as think its normal.

this made me feel SO much better! you guys made so many good points. the underlying theme is.... if you can do ANYTHING you want without ANY limitations (besides the light level thing, etc.), WHY WOULDN"T YOU WANT TO AT LEAST TRY IT??? i just feel like such a dork because i've now become a "regular" on this site and it makes me feel like a computer nerd. i'm not, i just like to talk about LD'ing. i AM a nerd, but not a computer nerd.

[/b] This is entirely comparable to the resistance spiritual movements get when they try and speak to the world. Think there's a correlation? Everyone keep's trying to turn Lucid Dreaming into a religion, as if it's some kind of entity to be worshipped. This is, in fact, not the case (obviously). However, Lucid Dreaming DOES open a door to many spiritual doors. We are in a time, folks, of spiritual evolution. The human is becoming more aware of his spiritual nature, and become more in tune with that goal. I think, for every LD'er, it is important to become familiar with the works of Aristotle, as well as to become familiar with the zodiac, angels, demons etc. Just be careful, things such as magick are very dangerous to play with if you don't know what you're doing. (in fact, if you call it "playing" with it, you're not ready) This truly is the coming into adulthood for humans, so it is only natural that you should approach this matter with maturity and courage. One thing to remember, is to follow who you are. You will come to know yourself much better once getting to know your GA, but I say this now, so nobody goes ahead of themself and gets their life into a mess. (Don't want to contact any demons if you aren't ready, trust me, they're hard to fight off) One thing I must insist, however, is that anyone who actually heeds these words, please... Stay true to the Lord. It becomes increasingly easy to give into the demons, especially with the information regarding them so easy to come by (in comparison to angels). Understand, it is not a mistake to research and understand these beings, but it is another to give your affinity entirely to them. The reason why there is so much information regarding the demons involved, is because this way of thinking has long been a haven for satanists. It's because of this, that Christianity has branded this way of thinking with the label 'evil'. This could not be farther from the truth, as it is entirely up to the individual which path he/she will undertake. All in all, I trust the judgement of the people of this community, so I leave you with these words to ponder upon. Farewell. P.S. Two of my friends already knew about lucid dreaming before me, when I told three of my other friends about it they where really interested. After I told them about it and how to do it they each had their first LDs that week. One of them had four LDs in one week, that bastard!

I know how you feel.. I don't get frustrated I kinda get sad about it . I've already gotten to the point "yeah it's just a book about dreaming". I honestly tried for a bit to talking to my friends about LD and my family. I could never get then to understand. And the upsetting thing about it is, they weren't even interested to begin with. With my current situation I have no one to talk about LD too, only you guys on the board. No one I personally know even tries to understand. I find myself alone in my day to day life about lucidity and dreams in general. It's not a well known subject. And because of that you find people like us having no one to talk to about it ..well beyond the internet I mean. I can only say you're not the only one.

One of the beautiful things about owning a piece of obscure knowledge is that sense of privacy. Not saying I have no friends, the ones that I have are great(I've even got one guy into the habit of asking me whether or not I'm dreaming when he sees me.) I know I'm not the only one, but I had no siblings so I'm good at solitude since I grew up for the most part keeping myself entertained. The awesome thing about never being sure about your reality makes life a little bit more ecstatic for me. I'll be up at the college looking out a window and get the urge to throw myself through it and take off like a rocket. I'll comment to my friends how fake the water looks sometimes. A lot of matrix jokes I mean LD for me at least has been a euphoric discovery, now instead of trudging through each stressful schoolday, I get to reexamine the light fixtures and the textures of the carpet. Slowly memorizing as much sensory input as I can for that nap when I finally get lucid. I get to push on chairs to test their physicality, touch doors for no reason but to feel the wood grain. It's wonderful! So if no one listens to me, or at worse they scoff at me, I can smile inwardly because I know that my world is so much infinitely better than theirs. I mean seriously I'm not even lucid yet, and I'm this happy. It's hilarious. I feel blessed to be alive each day even more than before, you get to appreciate so much that was there that you never even thought about. Who says somethings impossible, in my head I've got a spot of divinity, and an entire universe as my sandbox.

I think I'm lucky to have the friends I do; only one of them is interested in lucid dreaming, but I think that only recently she's started keeping a dream journal. The rest of them say they're either not interested, either they don't have time (for a DJ that is) or that they like their dreams non-lucid (and they might have a point, I had some pretty amazing non-lucids myself ). But they've always, always listened to me talking about lucid dreaming and whatever cool dreams I had. I'm not that open to strangers though; I'm actually not open to strangers about anything. And my parents don't understand it either too well; especially my dad, says it's unhealthy. Btw bentrider08, nice way of looking at life and lucid dreaming.
