      Scary Feeling?

I have been reading some of the posts on this site. Interesting...... I talked to the doctor some years back because I was having bad dreams and she told me that I was lucid dreaming. I have also talked to other family members that do it. All of us it feels like it is a bad thing (evil)? I tried to do everything in the world to wake up or should I say to get up out of bed. I could not move, or do anything. It always felt like it was a bad thing. Something evil or that was not good. I have read today that when you are dreaming you are paralyzed. That is how I am, because I am so awake but I can not move! Did any of you start out this way? I have read posting on here of other people having experience just like mine saying it feels evil or bad. So what is the best way to convert them into a good experience?

So I have tried to control it but it has been to over powering of an evil thing and it scares me. I really had not thought about it for some time. It had been 6 or 7 months since I have done this. Well, last night it happened again. I was a sleep this time there was more to it than me just trying to wake up, and feeling evil things that where trying to poses me or something. This time there was a big cat that was laying on me, I could not get up or yell or anything! It took about 2 minutes (guessing) and then I was all the way awake. When I wake up I am spinning and tumbling? Does this sound like I am lucid dreaming, but I just can not control it? I find that I do this when I am sleeping in uncomfortable conditions. Like when I am at a friend’s house or a hotel or it is too hot? Stuff like that sets it off for me. And normally starts just as I fall a sleep.

hmm... in the lucid dreams that ive experiences i was never paralyzed, and ive never heard of people starting off like this, or even having it frequently. i think the best things you can do is do some of the in-dream methods, like looking at your hands, looking at the ground, telling yourself that none of it is real and you can control all of this. i think the 2 brothers who created the matrix were lucid dreamers cause its strikingly similar

I do not think I can see my hands. Could it be more of a out of the body experince do you think then? And the other weird thing I have been picking up on it the spinning normally keeps you in a dream. And that is what wakes me up?

I guess you are not well prepared. Try reading some LD books, articles and generally, there's a lot of info that may make you "ready" to face your own darker side.

There's a topic "recommender reading for astral projection" or something, it has 2 long articles that may make you better understand the nature of lucid dreaming.

If you like scientific stuff, look for electronic verson of "exploring the world of lucid dreaming " by Stephen LaBerge, you can find it for free on the net.

      ------
      General advice:

Basically you should maintain an attitude of superiority towards any creature you'll meet in your dreams. You may want to practice summoning weapons, this may give you confidence.

In a book "the art of dreaming", by Carlos Castaneda, author says that you may overcome "body paralysis" with trying to move with your mind.
That is : you dont use your limbs to move, you kinda "float", using your mind to direct you.

Lucid dreaming is not Evil, or bad. It's a very good thing. Sometimes a creature or something attacks you. The best way to deal with it is to TALK. Even if you have a BFG (Big Fucken Gun) in your hands.

      Welcome saaz

Good advice Ev, I'd forgotten about the Carlos advice. I'm gonna have to dust off that book and read it again. It's been a couple of years.

      WELCOME SAAZ!!!!

I believe that it is the negative connotation that you were given that is perhaps preventing you from being able to turn it into a good thing. Also lucid dreaming is defined as "when you realize that you are in a dream". The fact that perhaps it was induced by a nightmare has nothing to do with the fact that it is lucid.

What happens in those dream? Do you first realize you are dreaming and then are unable to move? Or is it viceversa and the fact that you can't move makes you aware of this fact?

Whatever the answer is you must know that LD is a good thing and if you learn to excert control over the dream world then you should not have any reasons to feel afraid...

Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

Thanks for all the good advice. I started reading that book! I am going to Cali this weekend so I am sure I will finish reading it on the beach! In the last week I have tried and tried to have a good experence in my dreams. I know I can do it, I guess its a matter of time. But I have had two more times where I could not move. Once I was a dreaming I was on my back, but I woke up on my stomach. But both times where much better! I was just trying to experment with things. I was not able to do anything but I was a lot more clam. But I still could not move or really see anything. I want to have a "good lucid dream"! I sure it will just take time. I am sure it is Lucid because I know for a fact I am dreaming. Both times I woke up sortly after.
