In many LD tutorials and such, one of the so-called "requirements" is to be tired enough to fall asleep within 15-20 seconds. I don't know about you all, but I've never fallen asleep that quickly in my life!

So, my question is, how many of you that are able to LD regularly (I'd say once a week is pretty consistent) actually fall asleep that quickly?

O_o That's fast, but I think I've done it before...
It's hard to tell time when you're going to sleep... you just kinda fade out >_<
FTR, I don't LD reliably... had one during a nap...

I usually have at least one lucid dream a week, and I definitely don't fall asleep that fast. As far as I can tell, it usually takes me at least ten minutes to fall asleep, and at times, much longer than that. However, those methods aren't the ones I use to become lucid (DEILD and FILD, right?).

Keep in mind that those methods are meant to be performed in the middle of the night, immediately after you awaken. At three in the morning, when you're already half asleep, it really doesn't take very long to fall asleep, no matter how long it takes under normal circumstances. Even if those don't work for you, the majority of techniques work just fine without any need to fall asleep that fast.

I think only the FILD requires falling asleep quickly. The DILD requires that you already be asleep, and I have read posts by people who have taken hours to WILD. The reason the FILD requires falling asleep quickly is that the finger movements might keep you awake, and would also be difficult to maintain.
Ten years without a dream, now starting almost from scratch.

We're messing with our bodies on a very low level here - can we break them? What will it take to hurt ourselves?

A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.

I have an average of more than 1 LD per week (sometimes with 1 or 2 weeks without anything) and I need 1 hour to fall asleep on the evening. When I wake up in night to write my dreams, it takes a few minutes, or sometimes a full hour again.
This does not impact DILD, I think. It does for WILDs, certainly, because it would make them awfully boring. So I do WILD only in the morning (around 6/7) which is the only time I fall back asleep very fast. Even if I should not (fortunately I have flexible working hours )
Dec. 2006 - July 2007:
92 DILDs + 30 WILDs ; 75% too short, 24% decent, ~3 of 2 to 5 minutes
(I stopped counting after that)

No I don't always fall asleep right away when I have them, but I am more likely to have one if I'm super sleepy( like drooling on the pillow type sleepy). But WILD, oh my goodness, seems to take forever! It seems that I would fall asleep right away if I skipped trying to WILD sometimes. It really CAN take hours! But anyway, back on subject, yes, it does seem like I'm more likely to lucid dream those nights that I pass out as soon as I hit the pillow. Don't really know why.

I have two-three LDs per week , and I don't think I fall asleep that fast, but it's hard to tell.

Ok, so it sounds as if the majority here falls asleep within a normal time. Now that you mention it, MindDaguerreoType, it makes sense that none of those methods would be affected, 'cept for FILD. It seems overall tiredness, which HELPS to fall asleep, probably affects LDing chances.

You'd be surprised to see how fast you fall asleep using the FILD technique in the middle of the night, if you do it 100% correctly. Of course, few people can fall asleep that quickly on demand. For example, I take a while to fall asleep. That should not stop you from lucid dreaming.

I usually take longer than that to fall asleep and I'm kind of a regular lucid dreamer. I don't think it has any influence cause from the moment you fall asleep to the moment you actually have dreams that are any long it takes a few hours.
