Say what about Oneironauts??? NO WAY MAN!

im 18 fresh out of high school (finally! :roll: ) i cliff jump, repel, rock climb (not very good at rock climbing), scuba dive , and i am an oneironaut. To sum it up, i am an adrenilane junkie. From the depths of the dream world and the underwater world,to the heights of the 50 ft cliff im about to jump off, and the hieghts of the 250ft repel im about to do. I dont really talk about lding much. Mostly just to people on DV. I would love to talk to my friends about it, but they would probably think it was creepy lol :roll:

Hey. I know I am not the one you asked, but from my own experience doing stuff in dreams is more exciting. I don't know why. This is just my own experience others might like reality more.

I remember the one time I flew. I got a ride in an ultralight. It was basicly a stick with a seat at the front for the pilot and a seat behind him for me then the huge propeller was behind me and a wing over that.

I did not feel anything. We did what was called a 'wing over' a few times and it didn't thrill me at all. I guess my brain did get some good visuals for when I fly in dreams again but as for enjoying it I didn't.

Most of my friends thought I was absolutely insane, but I didn't care. One or two of them got into it themselves though, but never really talked about it. One of my literary teachers my sophomore years was pretty cool about it though, she had a book on it and was pretty interested.

its not much different. Your dreams can enhance the feeling abit sometimes like dreamship said, but i do my cliffs in real life anyway. The chance of getting hurt makes it more exciting, and for me its alot more fun in real life. I save the really insane stuff for dreaming. Like at least 200ft cliffs. And i dont use water in dreams. I use the ground.

Just a few days ago I was at my mothers place for a nice mothers day supper, I ended up telling her about it over supper...and her reaction was: 'Haha, oh Tom...activism, buddhism, nature, and now this...you're such a hippy.'

I could tell she thought it sounded sort of New Agish...which really got me, because we just finished having a talk about the existance of God, and some great arguments by Dawkins, Sam Harris, Carl Sagan etc. I was thinking: "What? I'm the skeptic here!" Ha, it was a funny though ass-backwards situation.

Most people that I've mentioned it to have never heard about it and really do assume it's some sort of New Age Wishy Washy hobbie. Meh, whatever...I'll be flying circles around them in no time...[Dreamwise anyway...]

I don't bring it up to people I know causally unless they happen to bring up something related to dreams or SP. I only introduce it to people who either show an interest on some level or who I know respect me highly for my intellect (yes, a few people actually have ;) ) and technical skills in various fields of discipline. It's not the kind of subject you can usually just break the ice with. Trust goes a long way towards having credibility with respect to LDing.

The idea of being conscious AND unconscious (as most people assume that sleep is necessarily an unconscious state) seems too paradoxical for most people to accept without a proper foundation of knowledge - or personal experience - upon which to present the concept.

:confused: Howabout like when someone starts gettiong all religios about it...my dad is a HUUUGE christian and im always telling him that when i meditate or dream it has nothing to do with a God or GODS, i tell him its all just inside my head...does anyone get any Religious Skeptics?

I've never had the religious argument thrown at me. However, one of the people I taught the art of LDing to is a huge Christian. He runs a Salvation Army church, is extremely active in prison ministry and Christian-themed magic performances. He's never seemed to have any sort of moral or philosophical objections to lucid dreaming. In fact, he was very interested in learning when I first explained the "power" to him.

The way I brought the subject up to him was we were watching a video of his by Andre Cole. Cole is a magician who also debunks faith healers, mystics, psychics, psychic surgeons and other such con-men (I highly reccomend his book entitled "Miracles or magic". I think that's the correct title.). We were discussing the implications of mind games of that nature and I said something like: "You know, there is a real mental power that we all have that most people aren't even aware of. You want magic powers? Let me tell about the power to be aware during your dreams and control the action..." He was instantly putty in my hands :D He learned quickly - or had beginner's luck - and was extremely impressed with his new-found powers.

Talk about God... I don't see why some people think that somehow God doesn't approve of "tampering with dreams". It seems to me to be a gift well worth striving for.

People who say stuff like that simply don't understand.

my mom is a christian. I am too, but when i tried to tell her about how cool it was, she said somthing like "if lucid dreaming isnt good, than it has to be evil" or somthing like that. so i dont talk to her about it anymore. She doesnt even like to see me on DV :( or she gets mad and thinks im wasting my time. :cry:

For most people dreams are unrealistic and fuzzy because of lack of recall. It is a very strange idea that you can live in a world and actully feel like you are there, you can taste, touch, smell, see, hear, and be in a place that is all in your head. All while sleeping in your bed. lding is some crazy stuff for the uneducated

:o :o Yeah man totally, my dad tells me (in spanish) "the mind is the devils playground" and he tells me how screwed i would be if LDs lead me to satanism and shit like that but i always tell him that he is crazy. haha well cmon, LDs are cool but its not like weed (it wont lead to more powerfull things if u dont let them). I think that everyone in the future should be taught LDs at a very young age. just like were taught the national anthems of our countries.

There is no such thing as god. Even the pope ain't got god's phone number and cannot prove that god or jesus exsists. Some people say there is no proof Jesus was ever a real person. Religion is just people being stupid and putting ignorant peasant thinking hooha on natural phenomena.

I've been reading a lot of psycology books and people all over the world have strange phobias and OCD and Depression and other mental problems are world wide in all cultures in all economic cultures also. So basicly the human mind is screwed from the start and all this natural 'mentalness' leads people to create religion when they have no intelligence and no science to explain natural phenomena.

Religion is the result of a sick mind and lack of knowledge.

We all know that SP is responsible for the 'Old Hag sitting on my chest' stories and such and we know what SP is now and it is not some spiritual demon or alien shit.

Hi, Nick is Sanz, real name doesn't matter - most friends call me by my nick anyway. I'm 21. I'm a certified computer graphic designer and a RL artist in many mediums. I work in I.T. in an apprenticeship with the title of 'Network administrator' and get bored staring at screens all day :p I play Warhammer Fantasy Battles and enjoy hanging with my friends, who, considering they speak about demons and continuous dreaming, are fine with my attempts and quite encouraging. Wish I had more results to show them ^_^ Hence why I'm here :D

I fell off a cliff in the mid '80's.

Doing it in a dream is MUCH better.

I am now 18 years old, figuring out where the my life is going, trying to change my pessimism to optimism about this world. I do some running, and sketching.

No job as of the moment, I'm trying to get a waiting job to begin (though it's damn hard) and I'm tryin' to start a little service thing as well.

Everyone I've told of my LD'ing thinks I'm a crackhead or somethin' but hey, it's their loss...They know less about their own self than I do about myself.:)

I would say I have some ability, but not where I'd like to be. Certainly can't spawn LD's, however I enjoy my heightened awareness in some ND's, almost like reading a book or watching a movie. I tend to have many small LD's a night, some of which I can't remember. So, I guess you could say Bro is an Oneironaut in training (OIT) pronounced "Oyyt".

Anyways im 16, I do mountain-biking, surf the web, im crazy and im an oneironought (<- lol, spelled right?).

18 year old college student. I'm a hippy, a stoner, a raging alcoholic, a horseplay-sports enthusiast, a BMXer, an avid snowboarder, a writer, a movie-buff, an aspiring film-maker, an apsiring political acitivist and environmentalist, I'm also very spiritual and finally I'm an oneironaut for the big win.

I was scared to tell my friends that I was interested in controlling my dreams. But I figured the best way to do it was not come off like... well like a dream-geek that knows more than they do. I've had conversations with most of my friends about controlling dreams and most are actually quite into dreams though they'd never profess it outside of the comfortable atmosphere I set. They love controlling dreams, and many of them have done some of the same crazy stunts I can (but they're natural LDers, no one I know in real life besides me has ever practiced or trained in order to go lucid)
