recent dream experience, looking for input

Find myself in this barren landscape - planes and these odd brush trees - flat land. 2 native Americans sit beside one another. One is old. There is a fire they hand me a bowl to drink from and I drink. They then both drink, they point to behind me plus tell me I must head west. I stand, but hesitate and turn back, and am told to not be afraid - that is my path. The indicate the black wolf stood beside me and call him ankira. I start walking and when I look back they are still there watching me. One with a eagle head dress I see and he keeps repeating the word trust and just staring into my eyes. He says this when I ask if it is real. The wolf nudges my hand and I see myself walking onwards

Hey, welcome back to the forum!

I have moved your post into the "General Discussion" area, because it's relevant there and I feel it will get more attention.

Yes the dream was largely a lucid experience, in terms of looking for input, i was inviting others on here to provide some kind of loose analysis or interpretation, although i understand that dreams are predominantly not about this. Many thanks for replying

      Well, here goes...

The image of the Native American often represents the spirit, or spirituality. The elder probably represents spiritual wisdom. They were a very spiritually driven people, and that only makes sense to me. The one wearing the eagle headdress could represent leadership and/or freedom. You've covered all the elements in the dream, earth (the barren landscape), fire (the fire), water (the bowl), and air (the suggestion to go west), which makes me wonder if it isn't a test or the beginning of a personal quest of some sort. The black wolf could be a guide. I'm not sure what 'ankira' means, but if I find any information on the word, I'll let you know.

Traditionally, the West wind brings change. Perhaps this dream is a forshadowing of some major life change?

      This is all speculation.

This was also my immediate feeling when I read your dream. It seems like full of metaphors (hell, is this the right english word ???) for "change".

On the other hand, I'm not always sure whether it is correct to interpret dreams at all, besides trivial things like wish fulfillment, unsolved conflicts, projection of fears etc. Psychologists don't agree on that as well.

I think it's a dream about searching for direction in life, like your unsure about your current life situation and wonder about heading in a different direction.

      input

based upon some of the dream architypes, this was something i was pushing around as a potential perspective on this dream, and no the dream itself is not re-ocurring.

Barren, planes, odd brush trees, old, bowl, drink, west, hesitate, turn back, not be afraid, that is my path, black wolf, eagle, ankira, head dress, trust.

Barren - relationships not being fruitful/productive at the moment?
Planes - Neither up nor down - all rather on a continuum
Odd brush trees - arid rather twisted growth grey (Gray?) green foliage
Old - ?? feelings old by comparison with student contemporaries?
Bowl - feeding container - need to feed more on your new insights
Drink - refreshment. Being more fluid or flexible and less rigid in opinions or in exploration or new ideas
West - the place of new and exiting new possibilities, the place of richer things (there is an older interpretation of "going West" meaning breakdown or failure)
Hesitate - being cautious or not trusting because you don't trust yourself
Turn back - fear of entering an unknown future?
Not be afraid - put aside old fears of entering new territories and conquering agoraphobia
That is a path - allied to above, a path will be shown and one which will not be threatening - it is my path, own path
Black wolf = black dog - old fears and phobias which have dogged you in the past
Eagle - people or a person praying on you?
Ankira - anchor? Old certainties no longer being quite so certain - having to lift anchor and let go into unknowns
Head dress ?? Your mind being changed unwillingly by something being imposed upon it
Trust - having to learn to trust others on a way/journey you have never done before - their assessments of you, their evaluation of you as a person and your abilities as you emerge from former relative isolation and integrate with others.

When you say it was largely a lucid experience, do you mean in the sense of I-can -control-my-actions-type-lucid or just that it was vivd and powerful? I agree with what has been said of the beginning of a test or journey. I would not read deeply into any one sign or object, but if you did, it should be interpreted in the context of the native american indian symbolism.

Your best bet is to contact the guides again in a lucid dream or allow the wolf, which apperas to be an ally, to help you.

Does the native american tradition fascinate you more than other traditions? For instance, if I has a similar dream it may be in the context of a monastery in the heart of the Himalayas as that fascinates me.

if i had dreamt your dream i would interpret it for myself like this:

i know the path i want to go. it will be fruitful. i am afraid. i am uncertain because it is new but my guides - the parts of me that are sure - tell me it is okay and to just trust my intuition. the wolf is a needed companion that will keep your loneliness to a minimum, since loneliness is something you forsee as a side affect of this new, but better path.

i would also ask if you have been into native american culture. (as someone else did)

also, do you like dogs? : )

a friend of mine who has the gift of speaking to the "other side" would say you have a few spirit guides helping you out. she would flip if she read your post!

neat dream. good point on the 4 elements showing up - whoever said that.

go with your own intuition. to me, interpreting dreams is similar to interpreting horoscopes - whether they are divine interventions or simply figments of our interpretive imagination - they can help up deal with life.

dreams, like horoscopes, are what you make them. of course I could get deeper with this and say "your beliefs create your reality".

which came first, the interpretation or the dream!?

      booga booga!!

      : )

There is a path set before you by somebody. You afraid to take this path for the fear of you not being able controle your own destiny. Every thing points twords the path but this idea and thought of it not being fruitful holds you back. You'll look for aid in someone else, turing to a close pal or "close friend" for help in deciding your desion, but you close friend" may be closer to your path then you think (the dog).

Maybe it's a premintion, maybe im crazy. But may nothing but happiness find you, just try to share your happeiness.
