      Question Sleep Paralysis

      Hi,
When I was a kid I used to get a form of paralysis all them time and I hated it.
In the afternoon I'd lie on my bed and read a book and, at some point, fall asleep, then when dreaming realise it was a dream.
At that point I always had a huge impulse to wake up, never wanted to stay dreaming and eventually I would wake up, or at least I thought I had.
How did I know I was in trouble, I'd be laying on the bed, and everything looked right except I couldn't look at the book in my hand (on the pillow in front of my eyes) and couldn't move a muscle (except my eyes).
I'm fairly sure I was still asleep, otherwise I would have been able to read something from the book but my eyes would always avert themselves no matter what I did.
Other than that everything was real, exactly like I was awake, though...I would hope that someone would come in so I'd wake up, and sometimes someone would, if I didn't wake up I knew I was dreaming them.
Also the memories seems to be in the waking part of my mind, I had no problem remembering.

So, was that Sleep Paralysis? Or some bizarre Lucid Dream Paralysis?

Hi! That’s really weird, i just posted my first post a few minutes ago where i described my experiences of dreaming.
Similarly to you I would often become aware that i could wake myself up when i suspected i was in a nightmare. I one had the same paralysis you described. Im not sure but don’t think it is a dream but an actual condition. I remembering hearing about it on the radio and thinking "that happened to me once". Anyway, maybe someone can enlighten us both

It's some form of LD sleep paralysis. I get that alot when I WILD.
I don't know why it happens but it is really damned frustrating to be fully aware that I"m dreaming yet unable to move.

      Interesting!

Weird two of us had similar experiences and both only just joined the forum!

I would say that usually it did have a nightmarish tinge, before I arrived in this state and was lucid dreaming I'd convince myself I'd rolled onto my front in the real world and was suffocating so had to wake myself up.
Strangely I never had the same worries when paralysed, I knew I was in roughly the same position.

That's so weird....For so long I thought I was the only one this happened to ( I know ) researching this is how i came to this site and found out about Lucid dreaming and now it all makes sense.

But I had the same exact symptoms your describing. I woke up or thought I did and I was laying in my bed. Every little detail was exactly the same as my room. The lighting, the covers, the ceiling, the closet, every little thing except i couldn't look down at my body. I could only stare straight ahead or to my left and right..barely. I also could not move my arms no legs. I felt completely trapped and helpless. I could only move my eyes. Whats worse is I knew I was dreaming and it wasn't real after a while but I still couldn't wake up. Even worse was I finally woke up..to just have it happen all over again a total of 6 times before I actually woke up! lol

But Thanks to this site I know what do try the next time that happens. They suggested to try and move your pinky finger to wke up or try opening or closing your real life eyes and you should wake up. I hope it works
Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.

To deny may be just as dangerous and misleading as to accept.
