Um...shit? Where does the dream end?

I know I'm new to this forum and I've been told that there are few questions I can ask that others won't find weird, but I'm edgy about this question as I'm sure some will find it odd.

Is it just me, or does it happen to anyone else to lose the sense of reality when they get tired. It's as if whatever tells defines a dream and reality seems to seep away when I get really tired or wasted. Could I be the only one?...or could it just be...my "issues" playing on me?

yeah, the more tired you the more your body shuts down; therefore, a loss of reality.

Never happened to me. I think you need to stay up for like 24 hours straight or get less than 3 hours a sleep a night for a week for that to happen.

Hrm...sometimes i feel as if REALITY becomes blurred.
Now, i would explain this as my subconscious becomming more aware, or having more control, obviously because the body should have rest, or should be sleeping, or in the case of alcohol-it is the external influence of substance that blurs reality...

It's true that I'm lacking in a lot of sleep...just making sure it's relativly normal.

~LOTF who hopes he doesn't start lacking in so much sleep as to start "seeing" people and thinking he can control everything around him, heh.

The line between "reality" and dreaming gets very blurred, but you get used to it after a while.

I think it is kind of neat myself =)

Me too...both can be equally vivid and valid realities, so its nice that you can sometimes have a doubt about in which one you are in...

While physical exhaustation of the brain causes increased amounts of adonesine and gamma aminobutyric acids to be produce, it also precipitates a reduction in n-methyl-d-aspartate and serotonin, or 5-HT1A.

The less serotonin, the less melatonin, the less melatonin, the harder it is to fully comprehend time and consciousness of your surroundings. This is why taking melatonin pills before sleep will help remember dreams and gain lucidity (this is also why dreams seem so real, due to a severe lack of melatonin in comparison to wake-life).

Psychologically, some people enjoy the fulfilling feeling of this as it is related to somehow giving your life "meaning" if you have some disruption in your perception of reality (too many movies with concepts similar to the Matrix). Thus, it can be self-perpetuated at times in order to give a feeling of purpose. Also, it can lead to schizophrenia-like symptons.

      Hope I've been enlightening.

Yeah, one time I stayed up for about 30 hours, and I would frequently have to reaffirm that what was happening was really happening.

I suppose the credibility of my resources would be in question.. I can only say I've studied from University textbooks, select websites, and a plethora of books. I can list the books (Jean Pierre Changeux is great) if you'd like.

I guarantee you though, however, that I double check my answers and their accuracy before posting - not just random answers with shreds of credibility and truth.

Sometimes the Wernicke's lobe of the brain is proprotionally larger than normal (residually, the Broca's lobe as well) which is usually the outcome due to hereditary traits - your parents may be very literate, like to read, write, etc. Some form of art. Or that you have had a keen interest in literature or art throughout your childhood with precipiated abnormal activity in these lobes of the brain.

Not rare and not very absurd - we all have some abstract modification in our brain due to our interests (generally it's because of our sexual nature, though).

      Hope I've been enlightening.

I've been told I look and act like I'm wasted when I'm really tired. I don't remember much of what I do when I'm tired. So, yeah.

Damn we're lucky we have O'nus around.
