lucid dream "time holes" (i.e. slow motion)

So, I wake up, sort of groggy, go back to sleep. I gradually realize I'm lucid and find myself in an old house that I used to live in when I was 14 or 15 (I'm 20 now). I look around and try mentally to keep the dream clear by paying attention, I don't want to drift off and lose lucidity. I'm doing this as I begin to head downstairs, toward the basement. I then think, well why not make the most of this freak lucid dream, and get laid. So I keep walking downstairs, telling myself that a girl will be in the basement waiting to have sex with me. I think of the first girl that comes to mind, some girl from my old highschool, and continue to walk down.

But something very weird happened. As I began to walk down the stairs, I began to move in slow motion. It was like time was slowing down, I wasn't able to go all the way down the stairs. Very strange.

This isn't the first time something similar has happened, time slowing or me being unable to speak, or being paralyzed, or slowly falling, unable to maintain a conversation with someone.

Any thoughts on this? I would like to not have such experiences, maybe understand their cause, or solution...

I might have an idea, I think you can't dream about something you've never seen or done, i guess the brain can't generate the desired images...
So that the brain freezes or slows the dream to avoid the inconsistentie

but don't take my word for it, it could be anything else.

I have to disagree with you there! Most lucid dreamers have done things in their dreams that are impossible to do in waking life.

      Oh yeah, Welcome on board!

how did they think up this experiance with out knowing about it
I'm saying that you can do what ever you want in your dreams as long as you know how too "build" it

I see your point and have to agree... somewhat.
Some people on the forum seem to believe that you can "become a god" or do anything at all in your dreams, but I think there are limitations. I think you cannot do something that you have not either read about in a book, seen on a movie, or at least imagined at one time or another. You can create several combinations of things or actions which make it appear to you to be a completely "original" thought or imagined sequence... but this is only an appearance of such.

Where I would disagree are the occasions when dreaming becomes something else, something indescribeable - where outside influences come into play. This is not proven or even grasped, but I have had several dreams that I cannot describe, nor do I think they can be described or expressed in any human language...

I am pretty sure he probably has heard of/seen/had sex sometime in his life...

I do believe we can do things that we have never even heard of. If we can come up with concepts and inventions that nobody has ever thougth of, why wouldn't we be able to do something in a dream that we never heard of doing, but we made up at the moment. Discovery should be as posible in LDs as it is in the waking life....

"There is nothing new under the sun." I do believe in new DISCOVERIES, but believe that all inventions and "new ideas," etc. are simply reworkings or combinations of past ideas. We do not think of new things in a vacuum... ALL of our ideas, images, and theories were built on old ideas and thr porgress of the past. Discovery is not the creation of something new... It is simply the realization of a thought that has always or already existed. Sure we can discover things during LDing just like we can discover things in waking life, but nothing spontaneously pops out of a vacuum...

To sum up the comments given to me as I understand them, some of you suggest that the reason time slowed is because I was attempting an impossibility of some sort, so time slowed in order that I never reach an unimaginable encounter. Others don't buy this, because it seems fairly imaginable, in addition to the experiential fact that amazing things happen in lucid dreams all the time, including things one does not seem to imagine.

My assumption is that dream reality is another parallel continuum (http://www.erowid.org/culture/charac...perspace.shtml ), which presumably has limits, but the limits are somehow related to the mind/dreamscape interaction.

It is very baffling to me that a dream would slow down. I might take the view that a "higher self" was slowing time down, but that doesn't make much sense to me. Even more than I want to understand the dynamics of what happened, is the appropriate approach to such a situation. If I find myself in a situation in which time slows down or paralyzes me in some way, what is the ideal approach to such a situation?

I suggest you try a verbal command, see if that will help you. Try yelling something like: "Normal time speed resume!!!" or "High level lucidity" and then focusing on bringing time back to its usual speed. Not sure if it will work, but it wouldn't hurt to try...
