      LDs can get scary O_O

Today I had this awesome LD, and it was vivid as hell.

I lifted a building just by putting my hand out, and I waved it closer to me. Holy crap I got scared. An entire building was RIGHT above me, being lifted only by my mind.

I honestly thought it was real, because it looked REAL. How do you get over that? I wanna fly and blow things up but it's really scary sometimes. Even though you know it can't harm you, it's still pretty vivid and insane.

      Congrats on the lucid.

I still get that occasionally--I was on the balcony of a high rise once and wanted to fly away. Three reality checks failed; so even tho I was still 99% sure it was a dream, I was afraid I was about to commit suicide, so I climbed back over and ran down the stairs instead.

So...it happens. Just keep trying. It's really cool when they're that vivid even tho you can't always do what you want.

I think the best way to get past fear in lucid dreams is just to force yourself to do things that would be dangerous to do while awake. Decide on a few goals,(I suggest jumping from high places, or setting yourself on fire, I've tried both and found that they're both interesting experiences) and as soon as you're certain you're dreaming, make yourself try them immediately. It'll probably be frightening at first, but after enough firsthand experience that you cannot be hurt in dreams, things will be far less likely to be frightening in lucid dreams, and any fear that is left will be easily overcome.

Man, that is creepy. It's like a constant fear Oneironauts have to live with; the danger of doing something insane when you aren't really dreaming.
      Are you dreaming?

Congrats on the LD, sounds pretty damn awesome. I agree with everyone else just test the waters next time, setting your self on fire or running face first into a mirror (also leads to some other cool exp. ) are pretty good. Just beware that some people can exp. pain in LD's, like me so depending on what your like you may wake you self up because it feels like you have been burnt or stabbed or hit over the head with a pole and so on.....

Hmm if you are 99% sure you are dreaming but are afraid to jump off a Sky Scraper than perhaps you should try out some smaller things first to see if you can do them like create something, move your hand through a wall. It can never hurt to make sure you are dreaming as it can only help you not hurt you.
