Oh man....Mary J is so bad for you.

I wonder if it is worse than drinking.

      Actually I KNOW it is.

Congrats on being a burn out!

It absolutely did for me. When I smoked chronically (all day every day) for almost 20 years my dreams were very few and far between.

Not for me. I almost never remembered any dreams at all when smoking a lot.

I think probably most people will say that it definitely has a negative effect on dream recall. Just from experience.

Not a chance. My recall only got better and better since I've stopped smoking daily. Now, even without journaling, I recall 2-3 dreams per night, that would have never happened when I was smoking all the time.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to tell anyone what they should and shouldn't do by any stretch, only from my own personal experience my recall has gone absolutely through the roof since "quitting" (chronic use that is).

Another major plus (you've heard it before) is that when I do take a puff now I get higher than a teenaged schoolboy. VERY cool.

      That's just my 2¢

Actually, drinking is significantly worse for you.
But that's not the point or the question.

When I was smoking up a storm, and I do mean a lot I found my dreams sort of faded out of my memory. When I took a break from it, they came back. I slowed my pace to something a little less intense upon smoking again, and I found that my dreams remained.

In my experience, given moderation, if you keep your mind focused on the prospect of dreaming and dream recall, the bud shouldn't keep you from your dreams.

In fact, I found that my dream recall at the point I stopped had increased relative to the time before I had smoked. Gone "through the roof," if you will. Almost as if your mind attempts to bring you back to a neutral position, attempting to re-calibrate itself, as it were. Remove the potential dampening effect, and your potential soars higher than beforehand. Interesting possibility, but probably hogwash.

      Any notions?

MJ is never going to help you when it comes to lucid dreaming, well i don't think so anyways, why do you need it to help you with lucid dreaming anyways, just be yourself and learn to do it, MJ won't give you results, your just being lazy if you expect it to provide results for you. Lucid dreaming requires effort.

For me it made remembering dreams nearly impossible. It made me sleep really well but as far as dreaming, not helpful. When I stopped it, my recall skyrocketed. I went from 1 or 2 dreams remembered a month to an average of 4 dreams a night, still running.

For a few years I stopped smoking, however recently I have been having a small smoking session in the evening -> which leads to the munchies -> which leads to going into a deep sleep.

      1. doesn't effect there dream-recall? I have zero dream recall now
2.Makes there dream recall better? affects it terribly
      3. Doesnt make a diffrence? Makes a huge difference... no more dreams that I am aware of.
4.Makes you have more dreams ? zero dreams

So with respect to Marijuana and dreams for me marijuana acts as a damper to my higher consciousness and my lower nature seems to surface. DOnt get me wrong Marijuana has very positive effects, but if someone is training there mind (meditation or lucid dreaming)I would have to say it works against the individual.

When I first started tokin it up i noticed that i never remembered any of my dreams because i would usually go to bed high. I've been cutting back a little bit lately because of lucid dreams and last night i remembered 3 of my dreams i had.

I have personal experience with marijuana over a period of approx. two years. I stopped using marijuana approx. one year ago and have experience with lucid dreaming prior to using marijuana, during marijuana use and post-marijuana use. In answer to your questions (and it goes without saying that YMMV):

Yes, it affects dream recall. More often dreams cannot be remembered, or details become more difficult to remember. Dreams may become more vague and / or more "abstract" and less meaningful. Having said that, it is possible to have good lucid dreams even after a night of marijuana use, but chances of doing so are slimmer.

Now, magic mushrooms on the other hand...

Well than that goes to show you, like so many others, were misinformed. Alcohol is bad for you because it's toxic enough to kill braincells, liver cells and kidneycells. The mental effects are pathological due to braincell-starvation; braindamage.

Marijuana does non of these things actually. And the dreamy effects of Marijuana are always temporary.

1.It does. Usually negative, but in the case that I smoke 2 Joints early in the day I often experience very vivid and well remembered dreams. I guess it's the Psychedelic effect lasting longer than the downing, REM-surpressing, effect. Also when smoking dayly and then stopping for a couple of days a significant REM-rebound is noticed with serveral days to weeks of vivid memorable dreams.

      2. Like I said before: Usually not, but in some cases it does if you know how to fool around with it.

      3. Sleeping high on Marijuana I find it very easy to relax my body and forget my body. My dreams are usually wilder and more emotional in nature, many times teaching in a charismatic, symbolical way.

      4. It is known fact that Marijuana use surpresses REMsleep so Theory sais less dreaming. But like I said; given that you know how to fool around with it you can deprive yourself of dreams for some time and then intentionally create a REM rebound.

I have worse dream recall, not to mention recalling where i put my keys. but regardless i still have LD's with increasing frequency. Not noticing it make a huge difference and I smoke about every day. Not to mention if you quit for a bit you can get REM rebound like Ska said.

Also to blinkskaterkc; go to www.erowid.org and educate yourself.

Marijuana Extracts Relieve Chronic Pain, Improve Sleep, Study Says

Because Lucid Dreaming and MJ is such a subjective topic, here is a study which provides support that MJ helps with sleeping - not DREAMING.

I just want to let you know what when you feel refreshed in the morning, sleep brain waves in slow wave sleep are that which allow body to regenerate, NOT REM. REM is for mental organization and dreaming.

      http://norml.org/index.cfm?Group_ID=6057

Alcohol brings you to FALL asleep faster but takes longer to get deeper in REM.

Once again, MJ is used for medicinal purposes by reducing chronic pain so people can get to sleep. BTW, more MJ smoking also means more lung wrecking and thus - create respiratory problems that can result in awakening in the night and therefore less steady sleep.

Congrats yeah the wacky tobacky never from anything I have read or experienced has assisted in dream recall, at best it's still very bad so I would stay away from it if you are trying to LD.

I have been smoking daily for 10 years, i know i dream i just can't remember them when i wake up. I remember bits and pieces. I was advised to stop for a week and boy has my dream recall improved! I remember lots more , only problem for me is since i stopped i can't get to sleep easily.

So in my experience, no it won't help. Even if you remember your dreams they won't be clear/last long.

I've never smoked what you'd call 'loads' but I'm pretty sure I've never remembered a single dream on a night after getting stoned and I normally remember 2 or 3 dreams every night. The same goes for drinking for me, I have zero recolection then too.
