I tend to become very impulsive in a LD.

      Has anyone else experienced this?
Often, upon becoming lucid I find I immediately become animalistic and impulsive. Usually the first thoughts through my mind are sex and using my superhuman strength to start fights. It's as if I completely loose the ego to my id.
Perhaps realizing I have the power of a god in this world causes me to go crazy with power.
It has been distressing sometimes that I will do needlessly confrontational or violent things in dreams - things that i normally wouldn't be willing to do, nor see a point in doing.
I really wish that the initial rush of power would die off. When awake, I have all sorts of ideas for more constructive things I could use my LDs for- Like finding "enlightenment", experiencing true euphoria etc.
It seems to take a lot of discipline to ignore these instinctual urges for sex, power and domination and instead focus on doing something "useful".

PS. has anyone here read "Exploring The World Of Lucid Dreaming" by Steven LaBerge? - In it he goes into the idea of attempting to "seek the highest". This section fascinated me. Is anyone familiar and if so, do you have any thoughts on it/experiences with it? (I may make this it's own topic)

      Hey there,

I think this 'impulsiveness' you speak of is actually a quality of dreams itself, rather then your lucidity. To me, it simply means you're lucid, but not quite as conscious yet as in waking life. There's many degrees of lucidity after all, and this one is probably one of the most typical.

I wouldn't call it impulsiveness though, but rather "reactiveness". In most dreams, including the less conscious lucid dreams, we tend to be passive reactors in our dreams, meaning we simply react to whatever happens around us, without questioning and without really planning. We accept things the way they are and react to them with whatever seems most suitable at the time, without really thinking about what already happened or what is going to happen in the future.

Well, that's what it seems like to me, at least

I know what you're talking about. Sometimes when I become lucid my mind jumps with a million things that I wanna do, and that in itself often causes me to awake sadly.

As for the book, that's what some members here call the "dream bible". Just about everyone here has heard of it. It's an excellent resource.

I kinda know what you mean, sometimes i'm overwhelmed with ideas in my LDs. or i become frustrated with dream characters when they start takling incoherently or 'play with my mind' and end up killing or fighting them.
The best i can do to control myself is to tell myself (whilst awake) that when im lucid, im going to stay calm. sometimes i plan exactly what i'll do before i sleep and try my best to accomplish my set tasks when i become lucid.
      good luck

I kinda had this the other night.

I was ina dark room and on becoming lucid i pretty much immediately fired light into the roof causing it to fall on me and wake up.

      I didn't really think.
