      nuclear explosions

i remember feeling pain in a dream the other night.. i was walking along and looked into the sky and saw a nulear missle heading toward the ground a few miles away.. i pointed up and everyone started to freak out and they were all running as fast as they could in the opposite direction... then all of a sudden i was on top of a building trying to run from the expllosion. i then tried to run and jump to another slightly lower building. i just missed the edge of the other building at started to fall to the ground. when i hit the ground i heard both of my legs snap and it was very painful. then as the shockwave from the explosion hit me i felt my skin start to desentagrate and tear off ... just after that i think i started another dream. i have dreams of nuclear missle in the sky alot . very distressing . this is why im going to try to start having lucid dreams . so i can get rid of them . does anyone else have reaccuring dreams of this nature?

Nuclear war is a pretty common theme for my non-lucid dreams as well, however I don't dream about being involved in the actual blast, I usually dream about surviving or causing it for various reasons... (Bug control being my favorite!) As for pain in dreams, yes it can happen, and does happen fairly often. I remember a dream where I purposely scraped my arm against a brick wall to see if you could really feel pain, and I did... Dreams of swordfighting also cause pain if I miss a block...

      hmmm????

wow, i'm fairly new to this but i've never experienced pain in my dreams....ever that i can recall....i usually have a standard "invincibility cheat" on automatically in my dreams =. see i think of dreaming like a videogame usually, and i can "input codes" to do different things...its just easier to me than just realizing i can do something, more realistic maybe...but yeah i think i might actually TRY to experience pain sometime...that could become useful for "soldiers of the future" or something..to experience gettin shot or tortured so they could withstand it better when it actually happens...anyone have any ideas on that?

For one week I had a recurring dream involving nuclear war. It always took place when I was on the outskirts of a city, with trees around me, and would see a single point of light heading towards us. I knew it would be a nuclear missle, and so would have all these thoughts run through my head about what it meant for me and the world. Not too sure why I was concerned with the world when I was about to die, but I was. Then a bright light would be seen and I would be hit by the blast wave. The dream would end then and I'd wake up in my bed. It was very odd to have the similar dreams about a nuclear war, but I did. I almost never have recurring dreams at all. I wasn't even exposed to nuclear missle information around that time either. Very freaky. It seemed so real.

Found this thread through a search.

I too have a recuring theme of nuclear war in my non-lucid dreams. It usually involves my looking into the night sky, while being outside at a party or gathering, and then watching what I know to be a nuclear missle come into view in the distance about to explode. I've not fealt physical pain in any dream, but what I always feel when watching the site of the missle get closer is an utter helplessness and thoughts of failure on the part of mankind.

I always wake up before dying from the blast. But before that I have sickening feeling at that instant because I can see people around me having a great time and loving life and who are totally oblivious to their nearing fate. That is what i tend to remember most of these dreams, the feelings.

For the first time one or two days ago the dream sequence was longer than before and took on a new aspect. It was my country that initially launched the missle strike against another, and I watched the missles fly off into the sky knowing that soon missles on a counter attack would end my life and the life of everyone I knew. Although before the initial launch I had the feeling that the world knew nuclear war might be iminent and so everyone was hoping for a peaceful resolution to the conflict at hand. I even was learning how these makeshift structures that floated on the water were built for the occasion if they were damaged in a nuclear war. It seems the people that were to survive had fled the land and taken to the open sea or bay, and I was among them.

Again, the feelings are so intense and the dream so believable that it makes me think when I wake up. I know that if such a scenario were to happen in real life I would have those exact same emotions because in the dream I don't know that it isn't real. Learning that about myself was most revealing and intriguing. Realistic dreams, like the nuclear ones, may offer us an excellent glimpse as to how we would react if alternate histories take place.

To the readers that have nuclear war dreams: Do you tend to see missle launches done by your own country or those attacking your own, where you may happen to be located. That is, do you see them coming down or going up, or both?

      Thanks

I may have had a nuc dream once. Dunno.

About pain in dreams, I usually suffer injuries in just about all of my dreams. I've broken bones, had blood wounds, and died more times than I can remember. I've even often been dead for so long in my dream that I just come back to life and keep dreaming. But no pain. If you still have pain in dreams, I'd recommend trying to become lucid if it is a recurring dream. Then when it is about to happen, if you are lucid, just say something like "I will now perform a spell against pain" and do it. I'm almost positive that would work.

I've had a dream where a nuclear bomb (like a bomb in a suitcase, not a missile) exploded right in front of me, just a couple feet away. Basically, I was pretty much vaporized. It was as if time stood still for a moment, then there was an incredibly bright flash and an intense feeling of pressure, followed by peace.

Wheelie, I'm in the same boat. I get recurring dreams about fighting for my life, and other general violent things, and it is also getting somewhat distressing. I am also trying to LD so I can control it.

      Good luck mate!

A few years back I had a pair of dreams. In the first dream, I saved the world mostly because I felt it was worth the effort. In the second dream I destroyed the world much like Charelton Heston in that Planet of the Apes sequel. These were basically the same dream with the same dream characters and storyline. It is just my feelings about the world that changed and so changed the outcome.

I had another nuclear holocaust dream this morning. It was even more realistic than the others.

This time I was outdoors during the day with a large group of family and friends. We were all arguing and some were fighting when I noticed someone staring into the blue sky and asking "what is that?" When I looked up I knew right away that the white streaks were caused by groups of missles flying high above and passing by us. There were many following next to each other which wasn't the same as previous dreams. Then I saw that there were 3 or 4 white streaks aiming directly at us, so they looked like white dots, and I told everyone that those missles were intended for us. Everyone got scared and I asked them all to let eachother know how much they loved one another, even after fighting, before it was too late. It's a little after that when I woke up.

It's always the same theme. Learning of imminent death from a nuclear missle strike while with others outdoors and a feeling of hopelessness. At least this time everyone had a chance to say goodbye to eachother, unlike in the past when they would just be blown up not knowing anthing about the missles.

Just out of interest mate, did you see some film when you were young about missiles?

      Dear Wheelie,

There is a certain amount of Collective Anxiety about Nuclear Warfare. Lucidity may discipline your fearful reactions to such dreams, as would a certain amount of Auto-suggestion, but the dreams may likely continue.

many people also have anxiety dreams about tornadoes and floods. You see, whenever a great deal of people around the world have a great deal of reasonable fear about some things, it tends to get into the Telepathic Thought Cloud and from there it influences the dreams that many people have.

Now, regarding your own anxiety dreams. While you are waiting to attain any great skill in Lucid Dreaming, you can begin with dealing with your anxiety dreams by going over your dream behavior and critiquing it, and then imagine how you may have behaved better. Relax and sit back and try to put yourself back in your anxiety dreams but modify the scenario whereby you behave in a more correct manner.

For one thing, you really need to learn to fly. What Dreamer should ever break his legs? Now, you do not need to be Lucid in order to fly. You simply need to suggest that your dream self should simply know to fly in certain situations. I fly all the time without becoming Lucid... I simply make the mistake of supposing that suddenly I am able to 'really' levitate.

I've watched many war movies, some with nuclear missles. The only recurring dream I've had is about nuclear missles, but always with slight alterations. Instead of one missle, there were now many, and it took place during the day instead of at night. Those are two large alterations I think. It seems odd to have a similar dream over and over for a long time. it's been well over a year now I think.

Yesterday morning I had another nuclear explosion dream. It was very brief, but also very dramatic.

I sensed a disturbance outside of my window. I stood up and pulled up the blinds to witness a horrific scene. In the far off distance the sky was all different shades of red and the clouds of a blast could be scene, but it was more smushed than a typical mushroom cloud. I knew that it was a nuclear blast and could sense that it was either meant for my city, but missed, or that the blast wave hadn't yet hit my location. Then the dream ended with my thinking what I just wrote.

This dream was the first one where I was witnessing the after effects of a blast, if only a few seconds after. The red colour of the sky was beautiful and frightening at the same time. In the dream I didn't sense that we were at war or that I knew ahead of time that a blast was likely. I simply noticed something outside the window and then looked out.

So, once again I have another nuclear blast/war dream. I wonder what this all means! It's an enigma to me.

      Apocalypse

I too have had several apocalyptic dreams. They are very disturbing.

They are all different, but all involve some kind of projectile coming from the sky. Several times it was a nuke.
The last one was terrifying, I can honestly say I KNOW what it is like to experience utter annihilation.

I don't know if it was a "bomb" in the traditional sense; it was way too big and had a vast billow of black smoke following it, leaving a fat and ugly trail in the sky behind it. And it seemed to be falling, rather than flying, or being propelled.

I thought it was a meteor, but as it crashed (on my town) I saw it was a large, manufactured metal object. I remember it so well I could draw it.

After impact, (which I saw), I watched a wall of rocks surge towards me at an impossible speed, then I was obliterated and the dream ended. Scary.

Does anyone have a theory as to the purpose/role of apocalyptic dreams?

      S.

I too wish I knew. Maybe I don't? lol. Ingorance is bliss.

The only recurring dream/theme I've had is the ones with nuclear bombs coming at me through the sky with lots of people around me, who are normally oblivious to their fate. Every time there is a total sense of helplessness, senselessness, inevitability, and a sickening feeling to know that nobody knows it's about to happen; they continue to laugh and have fun.

It's like I've actually been witness to nuclear war many times now because the dreams are so vivid and lifelike that I belive they are true and so act the same way in the dream that I would in real life.
