      Does complete silence help?

Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the idea of "lucid dreaming" and I was hoping I could get some tips for... "WILDs" I think they're called..?

Anyways, my question is: does complete silence help you attain lucidity? Because I've recently tried wearing earphones to bed so I can mute the sounds around me, and my concentration seems to go way up! It seems like it's easier for me to focus...

So would this help me attain lucidity?

Oh, and I have one more question... My brother-in-law told me about this technique to increase my dream recall. The technique is where you drink half a glass of water before going to bed, and you drink the other half when you wake up. He said that by drinking half of the water before sleeping, it would give me a time period to think about all day... Does it work?

      Thanks.

WILD - Wake Induced Lucid Dream, it's where you make your body go to leep and keep your mind active while you enter the dream. Anyway, with these, the quieter it is, the higher the chance of success I find. So maybe that could work, so long as you can sleep with them in, I know many have trouble with that. Do you have music playing though them?

And I've never head of the other technique myself.

No, they're not that kind of earphone. They're for the gun range.

      So silence does help?

      Thanks.

I don't really know if silence helps you attain lucidity, but I can't sleep without ear plugs anymore. I had a roommate who snored really bad, so I started using ear plugs. Now seems like I got used to them, so I just can't fall sleep without them anymore. Even when there is no noise in the room, apparently, it still feels noisy for some reason.

I wore those two years ago to block out my roommate's snoring, but with them I could only lay on my back, not the best position to lucid dream in for me. I actually like the sound of rainfall outside, I find it relaxing. I almost always LD during thunderstorms.

I assume that for a WILD, complete silence would help.
I've never pulled one off, but in my closest attempts, it's been silent always.
Though, I've also had music coming from my computer while I sleep almost spark an LD on numerous occasions.
So, it depends on what you're wanting to do.
And, I don't know about the glass of water technique (I've never even heard of it) but I'm going to try it tonight.

The trickling sound of my fishtank filter is soothing... Actually, I can't sleep without it! It's been there for so long... What works for some works differently for others. I suggest you experiment until you find what noise (or lack of) is right for you.

Also, I've heard of the water recall trick from LD4All. Apparently, you drink the first half of water while associating the other half with remembering dreams, so that when you drink the other half in the morning, you will remember your dreams. It never really worked for me. :/

I can't stand trying to sleep in complete silence. I always sleep with white noise (generated by a fan that runs all night), it blocks out any other sounds and the monotony helps me fall asleep.

I wish I could obtain complete silence to sleep in, but my apartment complex is way too noisy. I also use a fan to override all the other noises, and it seems to help. I don't know if it's ever helped me WILD, specifically, but it does help me sleep normally. I've heard of people drinking water to make themselves wake up prematurely, but not as a memory device itself.

44% of americans sleep with their ceiling fan on. I'm one of em. cant stand the dead silence and i will never fall asleep in it. the sound of the fan is relaxing as well as well as the breeze. so i wouldnt know if it helps me have WILDs but i do know thats my most common type of ld.

I cant stand sleeping in complete silence its probably better for WILD's but i wouldn't know, I usually sleep with my computer on for the noise and the ceiling fan running not for the noise but for the breeze it just comforts me
