Don't use an alarm, wake up by will. Lucid dreaming is majorly based on will power just like many inner workings of the mind. So waking up by will (deciding to wake up in the early morning before falling asleep) is a good first step to strengthening intention, which can also help with many other mental tasks and challenges.

Like I said: by deciding to wake up in the early morning before falling asleep.
You can use an affirmation (stating "I will wake up in the early morning") or just focus on the concept (more thought-based, without words, if you're used to that). And, most importantly, really want to wake up when doing this. Then you will awaken in the night.
It's a good idea to affirm "I will wake up after a dream in the early morning", like LaBerge suggests in his book and since it might help recall a few more dreams from the night.

Merlocks idea will work but it won't work overnight.

Aye, that's more or less correct. Though it depends on how strong of a connection to your subconscious you have naturally. If you really mean it, not "believe" but "want" to wake up, when affirming it, then it will work, though, indeed, possibly not over night.

Train it constantly, since it's nothing intensive, just an affirmation. Do it every night and eventually you'll get consistent results.

Waking up naturally can be really easy if you put in the intention, i once tried this, you can adapt it to your liking but i went to bed at about 11 and i knew that i had to be up for 5 in the morning to try some stuff, i kept repeating to myself the importance of me waking up and i set the alarm on my iPod for 5 anyways and what dya know, i woke at 4:30 naturally, its pretty cool if you just reinforce that intention and make it clear in your mind that you are going to wake at a certain time. Best of luck to you.
