      Creating false past memories

I'm curios as to what the rest of you think about your subconcious creating memories during a dream. Like you'll be in a dream and you are able to follow an obscure plot because your subconcious created false information or memories. Now that I think about about it, I would think that it creates these false memories and information just to help you not question reality, because if you know what exactly what is going on, then there is less obscurity to the dream. This topic was addressed a bit in another thread I started: http://www.dreamviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4255

I think your brain just fills in everything so you know what your doing. Or you just assume the stuff because it makes the most sense to you.

In most my dreams I don't think about the past or future. I just live solely in the present (which is why I usually don't question reality), which is stange because in my waking life I am always dweling on the past/future (something I need to break the habit off!)

In a lot of my dreams I have memories of past dreams. For example, I'll walk up to a school building, and I'll remember that I've been here before. Whether or not I really was there before I'm not sure.

There was another topic about this, and I wrote my long winded opinon in it. It's the same as Alrics.

      A Dream:

In your house |||BLANK||| Outside |||BLANK||| End of dream

You don't notice the blanks because your real mind will fill them in. So, you might be outside when you notice your bike chain is missing- you brain suddenly thinks: Oh! Outside! And fills in the dream like:

In your house |||BLANK||| Outside |||Lost your bike chain||| End of dream

And then you think: Oh my god, I predicted the future!
When in fact you predicted nothing, your mind just filled it in.

Same here. I sometimes have dreams where the main focus is me revisiting my past dreams, but I will not realize that it's a dream and accept it as a real place. I find it very strange.

Maybe it's like if you are lucid and try and tell the DC's that it's a dream they say that it isn't.

maybe that is a reason on why it is so hard to get a lucid dream... I wonder if there is any way to get around it... maybe you could ask yourself: "Is this memory correct? and how do I know that?" even when you are awake?

yeah... I once read that a good RC is to backtrack. like when you're standing in a room, think about how you got there and from where. Cause a lot of times you wont have a clue how you ended up in this particulary place, if it's a dream.
But I've never tried it, so can't say if it works though. Maybe the brain still manage to create some false memories that you believe
A child's rhyme stuck in my head.
It said that life is but a dream.
I've spent so many years in question
to find I've known this all along.
