      sleep parilysis

Do you experience this while going to sleep, waking up from sleep, or both. It seems really scary, and I am a chicken when it comes to EVERYTHING. I want to avoid them because ..well yeah they are scary sounding .

For me, they've been kind of a mixture.. a limbo zone where I am half awake (completely aware of surroundings), yet still able to see strange things in the room if I roll my eyes or turn my head slowly. Haven't had them recently, but they have usually been accompanied by the sensation of a "presence" or dark figure in the room and fear as a result of not being able to defend myself. Yeah, they were pretty uncool -probably the most despised of "nightmares" for me anyway.

Oh, and I usually had them just before waking.. only because I would often force myself awake to get away from this "zone"

It has been reported in both situations, while falling asleep or while waking up.
      Sleep well and prosper.

I've had sleep paralysis twice, the first time was terrifying and the second was actually kind of calming. The first time I'd never heard of sleep paralysis or lucid dreaming. I was lying in bed after sleeping, getting ready to get up and started to hallucinate (i didn't know this at the time). I saw a spider on the ceiling slowly descending towards the floor on its silk. I don't like spiders so for some reason i thought I'd get up and blow gently at the spiders web to encourage it to move away from me (I was half alseep remember, my logic was fuzzy). Anyway as soon as I tried I found I couldn't move. This worried me quite a bit but the spider suddenly changed direction mid-decent and started growing in size. I was going crazy trying to move and by about the time this giant spider (about 5 feet long) was a few inches from my face I managed to thrown myself across my bed. Turned round, nothing there. Never been more terrified in my life. The second time was this morning. I've been trying to Lucid Dream for a while and think this paralysis didn't happen and was only part of the dream (or maybe it was both). Anyway, I was lying in bed and for no reason at all it occured to me to state check. As soon as I noticed this, I noticed my perception was kind of 'fuzzy' and dreamy. I was eager to state check because I realised on some level that I might be dreaming. Of course, i couldn't state check because I was paralysed, my arm with my watch on was under my pillow. I then woke up properly actually feeling pretty good because I knew I was getting closer to lucid dreaming. So yeah, I think as long as you don't let yourself be controlled by the fear of not being able to move (easier said than done) it's nothing to worry about.

I have experienced it three times, all while waking up. Two times I awoke and felt an intense buzzing on my neck. It was as if I was paralyzed and had an insect sucking my neck. The other time I couldn't move until I was able to move toe and thr paralysis stopped.

Experimented how? Whenever I have them, there is usually nothing to do but roll my eyes back and forth and look around the room. Other than that, all I can do is pull myself awake (usually takes quite a bit of effort/energy).

Yeah... the thing with hallucinations while in the sleep paralysis state (maybe why they're often so frightening) is that they can be so realistic -you may be seeing the bedroom, or actual surroundings, but your mind somehow superimposes things like the spider Bluedini mentioned above. I often "see" things that look like insects or small creatures that are seemingly trying to stay out of my direct vision and out of direct light -kinda scary when I feel so vulnerable. I wonder if there is an effective technique for coming out of this state?

its happend to me a few times to. The first time i got freeked out like most ppl. The more recent time i had quiet fun. After awakening from a dream i noticted i couldn't move. I tryed to stay calm cause i did't want to awake from it cause i thought i might have been able to use it to get Lucid. But excitement was winning so, i helped and slowy willed my arm to move first, then the rest of my body.
